Default First time at the track need help!

So today was my first day at the track and I did pretty bad. Im looking for some help or guidance with my times. The track was Island Speedway in NJ 65 degrees out, a nice day. It did not seem like a great track but I don’t have much experience either. My mods are AA angled spacer, intake, and strupp headers. I know they aren’t big power adders but I should be running faster then a 14.1. I’m running toyo proxy’s 275/40/18 that I picked up and they seemed to hook pretty good. I’m not sure what’s a great 60' for street tire either so maybe they didn’t hook to good. I have no added weight either. I’m not sure why it was so slow my shifting seemed on the money but obviously something is wrong wither its me ( most likely) or the track elevation maybe..?? Any help would be awesome.

R/T......0.042
60'.......2.134

1/8......9.176

1000... 11.859

Uhmm.. more seat time bro.. that's all i can say.. you need to pop at least a 2 flat on your 60ft.. no need to burn'em up.. but do clean em on the water a bit.. also.. you got all this amount of air with your plenum and ****.. headers are helping with the flow.. but you still got them cats on your test pipes.. not to mention mid pipe and the exhaust.. do your self a favor.. get the test pipes.. and a true dual exhaust system.. and tune that ****.. 13's guaranteed son..

Yeah I know it just pisses me off because I know it should be a 13.8 minimum. I def need more practice I agree with that 100%. I had the strupp test pipes on the stock exhaust but it sounded horrible so I’m looking for an exhaust now then ill put them back on and then get a tune.

The car is running good picking up 21.5 MPH in the second 660-feet. 2.13 second 60-foot time is not the end of the world. The time slip above is 2.129 seconds (close enough for comparison). By the time we get to 1000 feet it is 11.69 vs 11.85 seconds. That is a considerable difference.

Run on 1/4 tank of gas.
Remove spare tire and all mats.

A little practice and you will soon be running better than 13.93 seconds.

Yea i def had more than 1/4 tank prob like 3/4. Im going to Atco this week hopefully and gonna give it a go again before the season ends... Yea our 60' is very close but 1000' is off i guess my shifting is lacking in the 2-3. Thanks for the info.

That is my guess also: the second to third gear shift. New racers generally are concerned about what RPM to shift. Its important but not as important as how far does the RPM fall between shifts.

Best of luck.

Dont know what you are complaining about.

For your mods, your time is OK. You could break into 13's but low 14's isnt anything to complain about.

Youll do better next time

You kinda ran as expected. Theres a little room for improvement with a better 60', but your only talking about .4's of a second off your ET on a great run. You cant expect great 60' on street tires. Anything under a 2.0 is impressive to me.

i ran 13.85@101 stock w/ a 2.1 60ft. so it should not be hard to get into the 13s.

I should be able to do it. I know people already break 14's stock. Like people always say its the driver not the car. Im just really excited to give it a go again. I feel like such a newbie.

I'd also say that a set of high flow cats or an exhaust would help those headers really perform also. Good luck next time at the track, let us know how you did!

Your 60ft is enough to hit 13's stock, judging by your 1/8 time and speed in relation to your launch, you need to work on the speed/smoothness of your shifting. Always shift at redline, seat time will get you 13's...
