First shelby gt 500 in the 9's

I hate that argument. Who cares if it's a Ford. A 350Z is just a Nissan. My G35 is just a Nissan with a fancy name. Who cares. And I do agree, let's see how it holds up in the long run. It should be just fine. The motor should hold up no problem.
A friend with a GT500 went drag racing with us several times over the Summer. Those cars will be monsters once more of them hit the streets (in the hands of modders, not speculators). I lent him my DRs and he went 11.8 @ 119+ with only a catback, one-piece DS and tune. He later added a pulley and 3.73's and went 11.3 @ 125. Not too shabby considering it weighs over 4,200 pounds with his 250+ in the seat. It's too bad Ford missed the boat so badly on this car's weight.
As a side note: Since he came off a power lease on his 2003 Cobra, he got his GT500 for sticker (although there probably aren't too many people in that situation).
He's got plans for a KB blower over the Winter, so we'll see what the car is really capable of this Summer. I'm guessing low 10's/high 9's.

350z: 33000
APS TT: 7500
Exhaust, test pipes...: 2000
install: 3000
several tunes: 1500
wheels, tires: about 3000 (different sets)
repairs after hitting the wall: 3000
suspension work: 3000
racelogic: 4000
methanol kit plus install: 1000
two sets of JWT clutches 1500
build engine: 12000
fcon: 5000
ATS Clutch 2000
install: 6000
axles + install 1000
replace broken axles 800
tuning: 2000
a few other goodies like gauges/line locks and so: 2000
now let's add 1000 for racing insurance on top of regular insurance
Towing costs 600
and currently I need a new set of Stage V axles plus install 2000
now my ABS system is broken....I'm guessing another 1000
and of course the HKS Navigotor needs to be installed plus tuned another 1000
total $95900
Best time 12.06 at 120....and then blown axles. Now keep in mind that southern california has high elevation 1/4 tracks so this would have been around a 11.3 at a sea level track
any questions?
oh, the car dynoed at 608whp

Racing Hart rims - 1200$ (tires on them already, rims used off a show car)
TN ST + RSR GT2 Exhaust - 3900$ (install..... 0$)
AAM return fuel system- 650$ (install..... 0$)
UTEC - 750$ (install... 0$)
Seibon VT Cf hood - 600$ (install...0$)
Tunes - (Well under 1000$) from sharif
My Z used for 19K$
My grand total with guages is about 28,000$ my car ran 12.9 @ 112.5 On 6.5 lbs of boost On a HOT day.
On another note, i've raced a GT500 on the street that had only an intake, Exhaust, and a tune. we had some misshifting problems between the two of us so we didn't get a good race. I saw him at the track though and i think he ran 12.20 @ 119.
That 9 sec GT500 had to have some suspension work because these cars have some SERIOUS wheel spin issues. (sorta like our Z's

Edit: oh and i was more or less referring to the Install prices he's been paying. Also.. you know some people buy PS3's for over 1,200$ and you can go to the store and get them for half that.

I am sorry he had to burn so much cash but I would chalk that up with it being his first serious build
I think a sleeved motor with pistons and rods (at least the bottom end) goes for like 4K + cams... maybe 6K assembled he has his listed at 12K
I just dont want people to think it takes that much $$$$ to make a quick Z and others have pointed out with a TT and some smart mods mid 11's properly driven is doable
9's are harder to come by because of the power levels/drivetrain required for sustained passes but ---90K is way too much money and I really feel for his situation ---- but when your in it nothing left to do but finish it now
I have a friend whos burned about 30K on his Silvia which runs 11's but we all know with that much burned he wants more out of it --- breaks things like crazy, more often than not because of rushing
Sick car! I would have to say that the car has more mods then said in the video.. They had to shave about 5-600 lbs. to get to a respectable weight.. Alot of suspension mods prolly went into it too.. The blower doesnt sound like a 'stock' gt500 blower to me.. 75 shot of NOS.. hrmm sounds fishy to me, but hey sick car for sure.. I just think they are misleading peeps too..

I ran 12.1's all day long on a 4500 feet track with a stock block and aps TT no problem.
Once you start building it up the right way which is what I did, my 12k engine is a fully build, sleeved block that can hold up 800whp for example. Show me anyone that can build a Z engine to those specs at 6k...
I live in California, everything is more expensive.
I live in an apartment building with no garage space so there is no way I can do any major work myself here. Also I have done quite a few of the smaller installs myself.
Sam at GTM is out here and he is unquestionably one of the best in the states so why should I mess with things that he can do way better. Yes, he's expensive but you get what you pay for.
Why don't we settle this like this:
you spend up to 60k on your Z and run 9 seconds at a 4500 feet elevation track and I will bow to you until then stop making statement like you've been doing because their are insulting and ignorant
Well my 5 At ran 14.56 when i started in stock form. I now run 13.08. Cost

car runs 9.5 lbs of boost.
On the stage 3 set up it ran on the stock set up 13.08 on 19 inch toyos.
After the TC, slicks, tires, more boost it now runs 13.12 all day. Every time i went to the track the weather was bad or there was no trackion. Something allways went wrong.
Next mod is a 1320 TVS eaton blower runing on the Greddy e mangage ultimate. Getting rid of the stillen &th injecter and the SS box. Also getting a SC cam from Sam ( gt motor sports)
My car is a daily driver and except for loosing 40 psig compression and burning oil in # 2 cylinder it has caused me no problems.
Sams stroker moter looks better all the time. I spoke to him 4 weeks ago and he his a great guy who's product I will be buying soon.
24000.00 dollars and have yet to see a 12 second pass !!!
The car will go 12.4 at best on 360 wrhp.
My friends Mustage GT runs 13.4 on stock tires and a cold air intake.
Just think if I put that money into his car!!!!
12.5 easy or better. 11's ????
The difference is that my Z looks better and i can kill them on a road course.
To date no 350 z in my club has beat me yet in a heads up run. I was runner up this year.
A stock 350 Z at our track runs 14.5. (6mt).
Thats it. He is the bracket winner the last 2 years.
All times cetified by the Ontario Z club of Ontario at St thomas drag way.
To the guy who cut 1.5 60ft times. (Stock)
My best 1.8550 lanching at 3000.00 rpm ( pro torque converter 3000 stall. 307 RWHP on a 3320 lb car with me in it. on slicks (12 psig) My base line was 214 to 216 Stock.
No way did he cut those times.
My cost include labour and all dutys, exchange rates and taxes.
I wish i lived in the USA as prices are a lot cheaper there.

where do i sign up???
9s arent as hard as you think, i wish my situation was different, the guy who built my motor (long story if you dont know it) used some crappy headgaskets, i have it apart right now putting in HKS and will be tqing it down to around 120-130 this time around.
i will hit 9s next time i am at the track with no turbos..
i sold my greddy kit, i am doing some cool custom stuff BUT, i am going to the track on dual stage direct port nitrous, 150/350 as soon as i get the motor back together just for fun...
now THATS going to be fun...

But even you must have spent more than 30k to get where you are haven't you? Remember the 60k includes the price of a z...
I just hate people making these claims and then it turns out they are way slower than the people they are insulting...it's not easier nor is it cheap to turn an NA car into a FI'd monster
Jeremey made out like a bandit on the purchase of that G35 with the motor and turbo kit already in it. He also has no install costs, seeing as how most of the work was done by himself. I would like to think though that his setup up is easily under $60k, even with the original cost of his Z.
Tomcat, youve said it already though. You built your car, when there was not many options available as there are now. You also have gotten much of your work done by others who are pros at it. I understand why and where you spent as much money as you did, but still feel as though your total cost of your car would be substantially less if you were to start now. The resources and overall options are that much more which brings down the cost.
