Default Launching your Z right.

So on the 20th I'm heading to the track for my first time in a RWD car. I learned to drive on an awd subaru wrx, and launching it is much different than launching my 350z. All my drag racing time was done with AWD

So, I'm curious about the techniques most of you use here. I have tried launching like my wrx, feathering the clutch, it doesnt seem to work too well though. The car doesn't plant like I think it should.

3.5k and feather off the clutch while adding pressure to the accelerator at a swift pace.

Well, i can tell you how NOT to launch it..

That was the end result of a 6500 rpm launch off the Fcon Launch control..
N/A I would reccomend reving to 3000rpms and riding the clutch out till it hooks. Problem is, the clutch will heat up and wear out faster that way.

What was done to the car when you did that - and what cause the oil pump to....fail? or whatever?

I launch at 5000 RPM's, but it wasn't easy learning how to control the clutch and not spin/overheat it.

Start lower, I have to every week until I get a feel for the track.

MRC's car isnt exactly stock. With that much power a lot of stuff can break. It was also an older oil pump, that was not replaced in his build and probably shouldve. (He spoke of it in the Forced Induction forum)

To the OP, I would also say to just practice. Its obviously not going to hook like your WRX did, but if you can slip it out at 3.5k and up, you can get a pretty good launch. Just dont dump the clutch. Lift it up a little, just before it really engages, raise the rpm, slip the clutch, and nail the gas. Its hard to do on the street well, but if the track is prepped properly it will make for a good launch.

I'm in first to 40 MPH, thats all of the 60' and most of the 330' (time wise) - the difference is incredible....I think I'll stick with having a first gear launch myself.

Friday is my mom's birthday, and saturday is one of my best friend's 21st, so that has me home all weekend.

Maybe I'll make it down at some point, my GF is from WPB, and I have a few friends down there. But more than likely I'll just keep running in Gainesville until I get 12's (bolt on if need be) and maybe a trip to valdosta or bradenton.

Well this will be my first time to the track in a Z lol.

I could land a 1.9 60ft on a bad launch in my wrx.... I really don't know how my Z is going to react to my style of driving when I get to the track... so I'm going to need a lot of practice with the new car.

Practice!!!!!

Launch it liked you launched your WRX just at a lower RPM around 3k like they were saying (feathering the clutch). Unless that is of course you didn't drop the clutch in your WRX. I came from a Subaru also... 2.5 RS with consistent 1.90X 60's
