i dunno about you guys, but i don't think you're gonna get too far "launching" from 1-1.5k other than a bog.....unless by launch he means a normal acceleration from a stop light or something. I'm a noob to driving a manual so i guess i shoudnt talk but any time i attempt a "launch" it's around 3-4k rpm and i usually slip the clutch just enough to keep traction in the rear but it's a fairly quick smooth clutch release....i dunno, i'm probably better at doing it than describing it...
OH man. hahaha.
On street tires launch just above idle. That is around 1800 rpm. It's not a HONDA! Let the clutch out nice and smooth and apply gas as you have traction. This should get you to 60 feet in 2.0 seconds or less.
Edit: I forgot turn off VDC or TCS if you have them.

All joking aside this website may help... www.rangeracceleration.com. Its a Corvette but most of it translates to the Z. Warmmilk found the site to give proper credit.
My best launch on street tires was by feathering the clutch with around 2500rpm to 2700rpm.
Hold your clutch right at the engagement point, then when your ready to launch feather out the clutch while pressing down on the gas pedal.
Hope this helps

2700-3000rpms work best.
1500rpms will yield too much bog and the best you'll get are 2.2-2.3 60' times. I don't think any of the guys that run 13s in their stock or near stock Zs are launching at 1500rpms. Well, maybe some of the 07' guys are, but 03-06 need to be closer to 3000rpms to run a good time.
