I saw dyno's showing power loss on HR's that switched from stock to ram air/cold air aftermarket, i'll try to find them for ya.

Aftermarket intakes = loss in hp, with the HR.
The HR's also get faster with miles, noticably faster.
The rest is driving.
I haven't been to the track in a while, but my car now "feels" faster than it did back when I ran my PB, in cool weather. Someone will run a 12.9 stock, and trap over 108. If only I had time to hit track. Hopefully by September.

I dont think he is saying drag racing isnt difficult, it just doesnt require as diverse a skill set or as much experience to be good at as road racing so it's not as appealing because in reality it isnt as challenging to be good at it... (at least with street cars, i'm sure when you get up to the upper levels of drag racing it gets very technical and experience is a huge factor).

i love drag racing, and ive been doing it for alot of years. i am more into the big money side of things, and ill tell you... the skill set required to hold three off the line and drive the top end taking a .005 stripe at 180 mph is amazing!!
that being said, i can see how the casual racer would find it un-interesting. making aimless passes to beat your personal best for what? nothing. everyone on here should try entering the next bracket race at their track. watch the guys in the other lane that have been doing it a long time. it should change your perspective. and after a while, youll get better and start to win money.
btw: if i had more time i would love to autocross, or something along the lines. although nascrap is boring to watch, i would love to drive one. more time in the seat would be awesome, but theres something to be said about ripping 3g's from a standstill and running 180 in 7.5 seconds. if you ever get the chance to drive a real racecar that runs fast, jump on it. then you will see why we love this sport.

I tracked my car the first week I bought her. Ran her hard everyday from the test drive on. Redline daily. I have 23k miles now and not a single problem and my car runs strong at the track.

Lets recap:
Go race him again
turn off traction control
shift at 7500
shift faster
sell your intake
Eat more salads
Run with 1/4 tank of gas
make sure your spare is not in the car

The weight difference (consider how much gas you're running) and shifting at 7k is why you most likely lost the race.
An intake can't be a reason for the same exact car to be pulling. I agree with most people and it also has been proven that intakes don't gain much if any hp/tq. I highly doubt you lost the race because of your intake.
Do as 95snoozer suggested.

If that does not work then you need to practice on your driving skills.
Good luck and let us know what happens next time.
