Default Leave it in Drive or shift "manually" with AT?

Whats the best technique with an auto to get low 1/4 mile times?

If it's better to shift the gears manually, what RPM should I shift at? Peak HP is at 6800 RPM in the '07/'08 models so would that be ideal? That's what I've been shifting around.

I also notice it takes a split second between me shifting up and for it to actually occur, so I've started shifting a little earlier to avoid going over 6800.

I'm a noob.

So post a time slip and lets see how that method is working for you.

07's redline at 7500 right? Shift at 7500 then. They picked that redline for a reason.

And judging by your sig, you race your auto pretty well. Around what RPMs do you shift?

Shift manually, it should shift instantly. If you shift at redline it will go up a couple hundred rpms, so you are probably hitting the rev limiter, which will slow your shifts by about 1/10th of a second.

Try each and see what works best for you. Automatic racers also remove the brake fuse or brake light. Has something to do with power-braking. So go to the dragstrip and have fun.

Forgot that. Yes, remove the brake light fuse or you will lose power if you power brake before launch. It tells the ECU that there is an unsafe condition and cuts the power by about 30%. Removing the fuse fools it. If you run in drive expect to turn about 3-5 tenths slower.

Basically the same as fowlman01 said. I havent run without the brake fuse yet though. I forgot to remove it last week when I ran. I'll try it out this friday when I go and post my results.
