Default First time on slicks - Vids inside!

I went to the track yesterday to try out my new slicks.

Well, they're not brand new, but I did pick them up for $50. I didn't have time to buy the Draglites that I want, so these had to go on a set of Aluminum wheels off of an old Ford Ranger.

They are 15x7 with a 4.5" backspace, so they fit perfectly. The Slick/Wheel combo weighs about half of what my OEM 18's/Nittos weigh.

The tires are 26x9-15 D05 Hoosiers.

This was my first time running slicks on any vehicle, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Luckily, the tech inspector let me run yesterday, even though I didn't have a driveshaft loop installed (required if you run slicks).
To compromise, I told him I wouldn't run the bottle. He was OK with that.

My engine mods that were installed yesterday are:

Popcharger with my custom heat shield
Custom exhaust - test pipes, removed muffler - rerouted exhaust with OEM tips.

It took me a while to get the launch down. Every time I ran, my time got better. At the end of the day, I was launching at ~6k, and as soon as the clutch started to engage, I would drop it. So, basically it was a fast slip.

My OEM VLSD is getting weak. When doing my burnout, I could feel one tire stop spinning once it got hot, but the other would still spin. I don't think that really made a difference with my launch though.

I'll scan timeslips later, but here are a couple of vids that a friend took. Keep in mind, he is kind of a n00b when it comes to drag racing!

My best time of the day was a 13.3*, which was the last pass of the day, and one of 3 that weren't caught on video.

Next time I go to the track (2 weeks), I will be spraying a 100shot from the get-go. I'm hoping to see some 12's....

Post the breakdown of your best slip. What year is your Z?

13.3 on a DE your first time out with basically no mods is impressive. With 100 whp shot, low 12's EASY. Launching on slicks + N20 = guaranteed 1.7 60ft at least.

My friend who ran 13.4 NA, ran a 1.62 60ft and a 12.0 @ 113mph his first time out on my slicks. That was 100 shot.

You beat a pickup truck and posted the video. Shame on you!

Thanks for the comments! I think the next time I go out to the track I will be more comfortable with running the slicks, so I should do better.

I did think that for my trap speed, the ETs were pretty decent.

My car is a 2003 Touring, and had a 1/2 tank of gas, and a JL Stealthbox setup with 2 10's..

Here is the breakdown of my best slip:

REACTION -- 0.0712
60 FT -- 1.7907
330 FT -- 5.4806
1/8 ET -- 8.5399
1/8 MPH -- 80.09
1000 ET -- 11.1391
1000 MPH -- 94.68

1/4 ET -- 13.3634
1/4 MPH -- 102.89

That was with a near rev-limiter launch.

My second best was the 13.51 run against that SRT4. Again, my times kept getting better with each pass, so I still think I have some room for improvement.

I'll update this thread once I hit the track again, WITH the nitrous. Low 12's would be AWESOME!

A win is a win!

Unfortunately, in this part of the country you see a lot of vehicles like that "tearing" up the drag strip.

He also shifts well. A 1.7 60ft NA with slow shifting = still high 13's....
