I don't know anyone who's snapped an axle. I run 295/35-18 bfg's and launch @ 6k rpm with an open diff. I put down 362/371 on the dyno. I suspect proper launch techniques negate breakage.
^ I would wager the majority of FI folks on Drag oriented tires has broken at least one axle. Like I said above....last fall I almost got taken out by a piece of shrapnel from a bone stock g on stock bridgestones that grenaded a stock axle. Launch technique does have a lot to do with it though.
lol... describe a non aspirated aka no boost no nitrous engine launch with street tires on a 1/4 mile track.... should i have clutch fully down and drop it or what? idk tell me how to launch a Z the right way?
I launched on ET Streets with 550 hp numerous times and never broke an axle. It wasn't until I had my latest setup
(630ish whp) that I broke a stock axle
That being said, it has alot to do with the Bias Ply tire absorbing alot of the shock and the lack of wheel hop
