Default 1st Time.. Tire Pressure

Hey guys. I am going to be taking my LS1/TH400 350z to the track for the first time this week and I was just looking to get some input on tire pressure. I have line locks so I can warm the tires up just fine. I have two options I will trying and I am just looking for suggestions on where to start pressure wise with each tire.

My first setup is going to be my current POS Falken FK-451 that I will shortly be replacing. They are 275/40/R18's. From searching it seems like I should start with around 30psi on these since they are street tires and the side walls are very stiff and short.

The second setup I am going to try, depending on my 60ft and how I hook up, is my friends 305/35/R18 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials. It looks like I should start these somewhere around the 26-28psi range.

Any input on these starting pressures? It looks like it is going to be quite cold with temps around the low to mid 50's and the track is prepped for street tires the night I am going.

For street tires I would start the day at 35 PSI. Drop 2 pounds after each run. See what works best. Do not recommend a burnout on street tires.

EDIT: Have fun. If the car points the wrong way in first or second gear, back off the throttle. No trophy for hitting a wall.

Why no burnout?

Because all you'll do is waste your tires.

Ive run street tires to 25psi, no lower as I dont feel more traction and you're increasing rolling resistance. Id start those at 30psi and work down slow.

Et Street Radials Id start at 20psi and work down. You def wanna heat those up. Give the street tires a quick spin, that is all you need.

I think you are wasting your time on the street tires.

+1.

The MT drag radials....I would start at 20psi and work my way down until you find what you want in terms of traction. I wouldn't go below ~12 though.

Thanks for the input. I agree that for the most part the street tires will be a waste. I will try them once and see what happens.

Because street tires are designed not to get hot. That is why they have a temperature rating.

Don't waste your time with street tires. lol

Run the radials.
I would start around 18 psi and work your way down if you spin. Those tires have a really small sidewall though, so higher pressure will probably hook better. (around 16-18psi)

I had some really small sidewall drag radials for awhile and they hooked better at 17psi then at 12psi or lower.

Good luck!

Always something, but I guess it comes with the territory when you do as large of a change as I have. Hoping to get it all fixed by Saturday.

What drag strip do you go to? If it's close to where I live, I might try to make it out.
