Default Drag raced at Atco drags N.J

So I finally made that trip to a drag strip(Atco n.j). I bought Hoosier slicks to see if I could cure my traction problems. At Atco you can't avoid the water. Its build with one narrow lane where ALL cars have to go thru a lake of water. This is what I learned. I don't know how to do those brake on burn outs. Slicks 26"-10"-15" are for cars 350hp & more not 300hp & less. I'm to old to change tires twice, after driving 31/2 hours
Reasults-slower 0 to 60 but decent times (spinning wet tires or bugging at line). Only my second run had a 1.850. 13.083@105.56-12.901@106.34-13.014@106.20 & a couple more 13.0 something. I learned that slicks are to much tire for me & that Z owners don't drag race. NOT ONE Z at the track. I was told they do come sometimes but are slow. A track guy told me the fastest he saw was a 14.1 SAD. p.s will get rid of slicks & go back to drag radials

Yea I don't like the water pad either. No way to go around it. Not very fond of that track. You shoulda just went to Englishtown. It's a lot closer then Atco too.

The Z is not a drag car, it's more of a road course/track car.

The 350z is a great handling street/road course car. That doesn't explain why Z drivers pull up to me to race or why in the parking lots/get togethers all they talk about how fast/quick & powerfull their cars are
On a different subject-why can't I post in the general 350z forum if I wish to do it? I'd like to reach other Z owners & maybe motivate them to drag race at a track, not on the street. If one can't race in a straight line than they certainly can't race on a road course. I would call that taking rides/taking a spin around a road course. Sorry to be so blunt.....

If I was still in NJ I'd go. I love that track. To avoid the waterbox issue. After you get passed the waterbox do a quick launch to get the water off your tires and you should do well. It has done well for me at that track in various cars. Also what year and mods?

rule 1: if you cant do a burn out, stick to street tires. DR's and slicks MUST have a proper burnout to function properly.
rule 2: dont complain about equipment when its not used properly.

better luck next time.

I also encountered the water box issue my first time at the drag strip. The entire lane was sprayed with water on each pass. I didn't know how to do a burnout so I tired launching the car aggressively from the water box to get the tires spinning slightly. However, I still couldn't get all the water off the tires and dealt with wet tires on every pass.

Default I'm not giving up on Atco

Even with not heating up the tires thru water, I still did a 12.901@ 106.34-NOT bad at all. I'm thinking of installing a line lock. With that, I'm sure I can learn water burn outs. Oct.21 & 22nd. look good to me. Any Z racers want to come???????

??????????? No, I mean 12.901@1.06+. All the rest of my runs were 13.0something. If your thinking that its .03 better than my record, I also know it is.
I just don't want to bother changing for that little, especially with me using slicks. When I turn in the 12.8s, I'll be happy to update.
Thanks for looking out.
Andre

Oh, I just saw what you are referring to yes its not 12.01 its 12.901 sorry

Hmm I may go out wednesday on slicks and see if I can get me some better times. The only thing with these slicks compared to my DR's is they sway ALOT more than usual. Kinda scary.

Looks like you got money to burn. If you beat me, I'll have to go all out & go for that oil change

The swaying is normal and scary.. Lol with my 27" tall slicks I drop that PSI to 12 and launch it hard between 5-6.5K rpm. Take in mind I have Pro Level DSS axles (1200HP rated)

Default So I finally made it back to Atco drags n.j

First, anyone miss me? There was a dragster final. Dozens of them, running for money. They still gave us an opportunaty for some test/tune runs. The good news first. One of my 3 runs was a 12.874 @ 104.72. The other 2 were 12.928 @ 104.61 & 12.926 @ 105.00. My mph speed was down, possibly because of lower tire pressure. Now I'm not complaining because the times were good, & they were not at raceway park but Atco. The problem that I can't seem to solve is traction. With slicks made for much more powerfull cars than mine, I still can't leave. My 60' were 1.906, 1.901 & the 12.874 had a 1.867. This was with a newly installed line lock. Its either me or the Z suspension. There is no reason to add any bolt ons, if I can't launch my car. I think my times are getting better because it now is much cooler. In the summer, I had 1.814 & 1.824 with m/t radials, but the temperature was 100 degrees. 1.760 to 1.81 60' should put me in the 12.7's.
Any shops on L.I. that are good with drag suspension setups???

If you could get the slicks properly heated up, the car would hook MUCH better.
I don't see why you couldn't get a 1.7 60ft.
