Finally got some track wheels...which tire?
I finally snagged a pair of 16" RX-7 FD rims (11 lbs ea!). This will be my first time at the track on non-street tires (in my own car at least). I'm torn between slicks or DR's. Currently on my radar:
Slicks:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOO-18153/
Pro: better traction and less wheel hop
Con: no-no for street class competition, have to switch wheels at track
DR:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOO-17326/?rtype=10
Pro: better for competition + can drive to/from track (I live 5 miles away)
Con: stiffer sidewalls more prone to wheel hop / axle breakage
Should I just do slicks since I don't plan on competing much anyways?
Any other suggestions to brand/size/type?

I'd just do the slicks. You can swap the wheels in 5-10 minutes at the track. It takes me less than 15 to switch all 4 at the track. With the stock block TT I would put a 27x10.5.

yea I'm leaning towards slicks. I was thinking 28" tire for the added gearing effect, minimal as it may be.. any reason to stick to 27"? VDC reasons?
slicks for sure. also check out ET streets 3793 and 3796
i swap my tires at the strip. just jack under the pumpkin and it takes 5-7 mins to do both sides.

For your power, Id prefer the 26" personally.
27" is adding just a bit of gearing and sidewall, my car swayed like a **** on 27" slicks, but I think it had more to do with my alignment than anything else.
Regardless, the 26" tire will have you at the very top of 4th (6500-7000rpm's) as you cross the line.
28" slick for your power is overkill and Id bet it would be slower than your other choices.
Regarding slick vs DR
I think slick = track only, softest launching, pretty easy to launch IMO
DR's = most the traction of slicks but harder on drivetrain. The nice thing is the "street fun" you can have if you're into that...

Ive done real good with my ET streets. My 60' is a 1.61 on them. I have to check to see what the exact size I have is though. They are mounted on a 16 inch rim and are much lighter than my old drag radial setup.
