Default Question for HR owners with 4.08 gears

At the drag strip, what RPM are you shifting at? I ran a guy last night at an 1/8th mile track and he was only shifting at 7200 rpm with a HR. Is that better, worse, or does it not have an affect at all? His mods are, 4.08 gears, intake, test pipes, uprev tune, and jwt flywheel. I went through the 4.08 gear thread and haven't really found anything that says whether or not it's better. He also was only trapping 78 mph. I'm sure his car is capable of trapping into the 80's range. However, with this hot and humid weather I'm sure it's having a decent affect on his traps. Any input? If it matters he put down 295 whp at CIN motorsports on their DJ at 7700 rpm.

We're going to a real 1/4 mile track hopefully next week to really dial in his ET streets and so I can finally hit 12's in my M3.

Do you drive a 350Z? Because I really don't care about this guy or BMW racing.

That said you know that gearing for 1/8 mile may not be suitable for 1/4 mile. The objective, of course, is to cross the finish line at maximum RPM. Some racers do this with a final drive. Some with rear tire circumference. No matter - all the same.

I'll keep this simple. You do not own 4.08 gears so what you're telling me is irrelevant. I owned a 350Z for 4 years and my 370Z for a month. Does that count? Still the same typical DavidV I see. Not to mention, I only posted his 1/8th mile times because I saw them first hand. Never mind that. Answer the question.

Although unrelated to the gearing question shifting higher is usually better at the track. Even though my power starts dropping off around 6.5k I get better times/traps shifting at 7k. I would imagine an HR makes power all the way to redline so even better for them,

If he made power to 7700rpms he shouldn't be shifting at 7200 Rpms. Amazing how guys "hear" stuff online and proceed to do the wrong things when at the track.

I milked E46 M3's with my bolt on and tuned DE, never came close to losing to one from a roll even.

Your friend sounds like a non driver though I hope you rape him.

My E46 has intake, tune, and VAC Motorsport Ultralight UDP's. He makes power til 7500 rpm, his dyno sheets confirm. I definitely put cars on him. I'd post the vids up but we all know the rules. Stock he went 13.5 @ 104. He needs better weather to get 12's. DA's are around the 12-1400 range. For him to hit 12's he would definitely need under 500 DA. My car is close, as I went 13.3 @ 104 at 1327' DA on a 1.991 60'. Corrects to a 13.1 @ 105.

He can drive. He's capable and with him having ET streets now it's just a matter of time before he hits 12's. Hopefully I can do it before him. Did you pull well driven 6spd modded or stock E46 M3's? I have no issues pulling 350Z's. I feel my E46 M3 is also quite a bit quicker than my 370Z.

You'd definitely have trouble with mine. No doubts it would be a very good and fun run. Take all that TT stuff off and go back to bolt ons.

I'd have trouble until 2nd gear when I started leaving you behind lol

I've honestly thought about selling the mega power setup and swapping another motor, NOT an LS1. 3.7 350 would be fun and easily 40+whp more than my NA setup.

im basically at near stock power level (exhaust and drop in fliters, no tune) and have beaten every e46 ive raced smg and manual, from a roll, they look nice tho. i should be in 12s but cant launch to save my life haha well ive only tried twice on my slicks and bogged bad.

I would have to see it to believe it. If a full bolt on, geared, tuned, and well driven HR can't keep off a 2nd gear 40 roll. I'd really have to run your car to believe it. Check me out on youtube. Tracked350Z.

Well they must be poorly driven or stock. Which is the case for most. You car has enough mods to pull on a stock one I would say. Definitely not a properly bolted on E46 M3.

You're trapping 104mph, with an exhaust untuned I ran 13.1 and was trapping 106 almost 107 and I'm very new to drag racing, I just do it for fun when a couple friends wanna go out and run. I do run outside the track which I'm not very proud of but whatever I guess there are some videos on YouTube but that is frowned upon on this forum. There are guys on this forum running faster e.t than you stock
down to the tire and a guy trapping 109mph. I think all the Zs you've raced had bad drivers which sadly is most just going by the Zs I've raced. I'm just going off of your 1/4 mile time here and trap speed seems to be a good indicator for who will most likely win from a roll or it has been to me at least.

Lol.. I take it you have yet to watch the videos on youtube of ME racing. My trap speed means nothing to me. Simply because it was done in heat and at a DA of 1397'-1427'. I wouldn't look so hard at trap speeds as I'm definitely beginning to learn that there's a huge difference in where you're running, how well the track layout is, and what the conditions are. I've ran down a 106 mph (bone stock trap speed) bolt on geared HR, Nismo 370Z this weekend, and a handful of other 350Z's. All well driven. Watch my videos. You can tell the Nismo 370Z just didn't have enough to keep up as he was powershifting as quickly as possible from a roll. Simply put, my M3 runs hard. Not to mention my friend off a 40 roll is getting yanked immediately off the jump. That's no driver error. That's simply my car out performing his.

I bet if I ran at Atco in November I would see some 108-110 mph traps.

Lol at the last part, and racing on the street and the track are two way different things. well I would love to run you if you were in the area. btw it was summer here in Tampa Florida when I ran my times. Numbers don't lie your 13.3 @104 is 13.3 @104 anyway you look at it and that is even with a 1.9 60. don't need a density air calculator to make it sound better. its like the civic kids raving about how they put down x amount of power at the crank lol.

Lol, so you're telling me I'm crazy for raving about running in a 1300' elevation? You know how ridiculous you sound? So then if I only trap a 104, then the 350Z I ran traps a 102 or so right? So that Nismo is a 103 car too right? I'm trying to explain to you that every track is different. To be honest I put money on it, if I ran at Atco tomorrow night, I would see a 107 mph trap. No problem. What you ran is what you ran down there in fl. Truth be told, your Z would be embarrassed.

Lol so your previously stated 108-110 trap speeds just went down to 107 ? get over yourself kid , typical BMW owner. I worked as a tech for BMW I know what they're capable of. You run a 13.3 and that is that. Go back to e46fanatics and cry there

If you read correctly, my previously stated 108-110 mph traps would've been done in November. Where the temps are cold and it's highly likely to see negative DA's and not the 107 mph trap I claim I could do. If you knew anything about drag racing you would know how much DA affects your runs. Apparently you have yet to learn that aspect of drag racing. Let's also not forget, I was a Z owner long before I ever owned my M3. So why don't you crawl from under that rock and get your head out of your ***. You still haven't watched the videos yet have you? Go ahead and watch them, then tell me they were poor drivers.

Lmao trust me I know "that aspect of drag racing" . So on your 3rd post in this thread you wrote how you ran 13.3 @ 104 with a 1.9 60 in 1327DA then proceeded to use a ***** enlarger to correct the DA to show a time of 13.1 @105 to make yourself feel better. Even if that little dream of yours was true you would have the same e.t as myself and Alberto did, myself with just a nismo s-tune exhaust untuned, Alberto with bolt ons. Also a 1mph slower trap than myself and 2mph slower than Alberto. I guess you have no idea how humid Florida is but I'm not gonna use a DA calculator to correct my times. I'm not looking for a stupid forum argument, in reality you're slower, your friend short shifts @7200 hence your first post which is why you beat him I guess. You're not gonna prove anything by showing us your YouTube videos , I have plenty and so does Alberto. You don't see us waving our dicks about them. Hope your first original question was answered so now you can move on. Come back when you actually run a 13.1 or better. not trying to be an a$$hole
