1/4 on street tires
To all those racing on street tires (drag racing), you ARENT doing a light burnout to clean them off right? Saw a few vids of 350z hitting the waterbox on street tires. Not a good idea
My experience with racing on street tires is to avoid water, avoid burnouts and just go. (not even light burnouts to clean tires) Anyone have any opinions?

My opinion is that most people don't know what the hell they are doing when it comes to racing and will do what they see the other cars doing. They see other cars going through the water and doing burnouts and they assume that's what you are supposed to do.
Infenion/Sears Point is really good about letting you drive around the water, they keep it nice and dry so that you don't get any on your street tires. I race in the street class and most of those guys are running street tires.
Went to the track Jan 2 and the track "attendant" said I have to spin my tires or I will not be able to race. It was the same guy mopping up the track........needless to say my fastest time was only a 14.7
I dont believe in doing a burnout on street tires, but I do quickly spin them off to clean the rocks/chunks of rubber left from the other drivers.....that being said I have run my car 3X: my best is 13.77 worst is 13.86, ran a 13.80 my first pass ever on a crappy 2.14 60ft. My 13.77 came with a 2.052 60ft. Do whatever suites you....
Firebird Raceway and Speedworld here in Phoenix have gravel that you park in for your "pit". Once I am in the staging lanes I wipe the gravel off the tires with my hands but that is the farthest I go with street tires.
