Default ATI 350Z at Houston Raceway Park

It was like high 70F tonight at the track. Im bone stock except for the 7lbs of boost from the ATI Procharger. I dynoed once at 357 rwhp. 255/45 Nitto 555 Extreme @26psi in the rear, 245/40 @ 33psi in the front. This is my first time at the drag strips so... ehhhh...

I got 8 runs in tonight. Here are my best 3.

R/T .517
60' 2.116
1/4 13.239 @ 109.08

R/T .476
60' 2.203
1/4 13.345 @ 110.71

R/T .784
60' 2.249
1/4 13.347 @ 106.82

What sucks is the mad wheel hop I get in 1st and my 4th gear tops out at 110 mph I think, and sometimes the fuel cut off seems to step in earlier at 108 mph maybe. Im considering the torque dampener to lessen the wheel hop. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

26 psi is a little much for the nittos.....try dropping the pressure down more. It will help if you are having traction issues.

How far before the traps are you winding out 4th? If a decent distance before the line you might consider hitting 5th.....although that shift takes a bit of practice to get down.

try 20 psi in the rears, those traps look good but the 60' is whats holding you back from the 12's

reduce the pressure some more on your tires to get better traction. A burnout to heat up the tires may help as well. To get better times when you stage don't stage very deep...just creep up to the second stage light and you see the third yellow dump that b****h and go...Never wait for green, if you do your RT suffers. Plus the further back you stage the more roll you have to get started to improve your 60ft. Once your wheel hop goes away your 60ft will dramatically improve.

hmm, with 357rwhp, you should be in the 12's... I agree with the 20psi pressure, maybe try that next time...

how did the few other Z's run?

Thanx for the tips guys. I'll put that knowledge to work the next time im at the strip.

Hey Apexi, I think most everyone's best runs where 14 flat to 14.2. Two ppl with just cold air intakes did 13.8, TrubluZ, and someone else did 13.9.

Just to reiterate, don't go over 20 psi in the back. I got 13.9 stock with 16 psi in the back.

Saw your runs enron exec, quite impressive. If memory serves me well most of the runs by the 7-8 other 350Z's that night were in the 14.2-14.8 range. except for the one run by the guy who cut a wierd 13.87 after running in the low to mid 14's all night.
Go figure.
Has your ATI been tuned for A/F ratio?

I have CAI, Hi-flo cats and Borla TD and I'm cutting consistent 13.6's at HRP....even on stock tires.

Matter of fact I just got back tonight from a night at HRP.

Air down those Nittos to 20 or even 15 psi purely for the runs and you'll cut down on that 60'. How are you launching? With all your power I couldn't really tell you the best way, but I hold it at 2500 and on green I slam on the gas and dump the clutch. If I time it correctly I'm dumping at around 3000-3500, I spin a little then hook and go. I've gotten pretty efficient at 2.0 60' times and I can't really see much more room for improvement.

Anywho....work on that launch and air down and you should see 12's. As for your end of 4th running out, I can't really help, I run out of 4th right at the checkpoint.

Good luck

-Zach

Here is something i just posted in the FI thread cause I saw Chebosto's thread:

I just got back form the drag strip tongiht and im proud to say i finally hit the 12's, not by much though.

Houston Raceway Park should be pretty much sea level or maybe 50 foot. It was like high 70's tonight with alot of sun and mid day heat.

R/T .293
60' 2.007
330 5.579
1/8 8.457
MPH 87.38
1000 10.925
1/4 12.981
MPH 109.63

I took the advice of some board members here (12secZ) and dropped my rear tire psi to around 22 warm. Yea me!

Oh yea, im pretty much stock except for the ATI kit. This was my second time at the strip. Last week was my first and i had a best of 13.2 at 109. So it all just takes a lil practise.

Come on now...give me a little credit. I was running low low 14s all night until I tried to launch harder and got major wheel spin. I'm ready to back up the "wierd" 13.843 next week.

Here is a video of some HRP passes. It was Sports Compact night so there was only 4cyc, 6cyc and bikes allowed. Im the only Silver Z in the video. There was a black SRT-4 doing low 13's high 12 on a 100 shot. He had a 12.4 @ 119 once a few weeks back when he had a larger turbo. That silver Neon RT broke its tranny lauching...
