Default Cutting 1/4 mile time

I did a search and couldn't find anything like this. I am looking to improve my time on my N/A 350z and was wondering weather getting exaust (suposidly adds 10-20hp) or getting wider rims and tires would be a better investment. Thanks for your help in advance.

I put 295 toyos on and my 60' times went down to 1.96 and they still spin just a bit. Look at the thread where the guy got a 13.09 with drag slick and near stock power.

Yeah staying with a smaller size diameter wheel (16 or 17 and wider, 9" preferred) with some slicks or DRs will make a much bigger difference than an exhaust.

Sticky tires is the best investment to go faster in the 1/4. the stock exhaust is pretty good as is.

Sticky tires will make you quicker but not faster. With traction you may actually slow down in the 1/4 (but your ET will improve). I'd say make improvements to get the power you have to the ground (like tires) before you add more power. It's frustrating to know you have a lot of power but run crappy ETs.

I don't care much about my trap speed. ET wins the race.

Is that your GN in your avatar? I had two of those. One stock and the other with a mitsu turbo and a "few" other things. It was a low 11 sec car. Really great cars!!!

ET wins the race and the stoplight skirmishes. Many a debate has raged on other boards about "racing from a roll" which is an indication of power rather than traction. To me it just says you can't launch your car, but those folks say the ET is irrelevant. I'm sure it makes them feel better that they could've caught me if we'd have gone triple digits after they've been left sittin' and spinnin' at a stoplight.

And yes, that's my car in the avatar. It has a "few" things, too. I'm still wringing out a new combination of more fuel, turbo and stall (60# injectors, PT-61 turbo and 3500 RPM stall). It makes a ton of power off the line now and I have a hard time getting it moving even on 11.5" DOT slicks (thus maximizing MPH and hurting ET). It should be good for 120 MPH traps but I haven't maxed out the ET on my 115 traps yet. Hence my comment about power vs. being able to put it to the ground. In my opinion you want to have a combination that maximizes the ET for your MPH - and is repeatable on the street. I drive my car with the same configuration as I do at the track (though I use alcohol and unleaded fuel on the street vs. leaded high octane fuel at the track). To me there's no sense in putting up big numbers at the track if you can't back them up on the street.

They don't let me race from a roll at Infineon.

Again great car! I have posted a bunch about the two I had along with pics, if you are interested you could do a search.

Having a GN gives you an idea what traction problems really are. That was my biggest challenge. Even the stock one would light them up at 50 or so at WOT.

hey! have fun with the car, I unfortunatlly sold the last one a year ago. I miss it!!!! I have visitation rights though and run it on occasion.

Thanks. Searched and found the pic - how could you tell which was which? It's funny when you go to shows and they all look exactly alike. Seems like some folks here aren't sure what they are or what to think of them. I get the same reaction everywhere.

I bought the car on a whim (long story) and decided to keep it around. I usually get bored with them and move on, but I've had this one longer than any other car I've owned. It's been the easiest to make go fast and it's not tapped out yet (not that I didn't break a few things along the way). I'm at a crossroads with it, though, because it needs a roll bar in order to stay NHRA legal. I'm not sure whether I want to hack it up or start over with something else (like a 2003+ Cobra).

Anyhow, thanks for the kind words.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming.....
