Need tips on using Drag Radials
I'm going to the strip soon and I have bought myself a couple of Nittos 555R (street slicks) 245/50/16.
What is the best way to use them and get a good grip without killing my RPM?

First off I would see those tires and get a better size... A 245/50/16 is almost an inch lower than stock... You are going to have a hard time launching no matter how sticky they are... I honestly believe that your would probably net the sames times as your stock tires.... IMHO..... I am not a professional racer but I have a decent track record to my credit.. I probably have about 50 passes down the track on my 350....

With those smaller DR's you will be shifting sooner than usual, which is actually a good thing, the Nittos need to be heated up pretty good in order for them to stick good, I would do a 2nd gear burn in the water box and roll out after a decent amount of smoke and then play with tire pressure a little until you know what is best for your driving

A good rule of thumb when playing with pressures is get it low to the point where you start to bog and then bring up the pressure until you get a very slight spin...I would start probably around 20PSI and just use that rule of thumb until you find what is right for you
ok now heres a topic i can give some good advice on. I own some Nitto 555R extreme drags and i have 275/45/17 on the stock rims. they are sweet for the track. I do a short 1st gear burnout to get em wet in the water area and then do a raging 2nd gear burnout til i reach the line and hit the brakes at the staging lights. AT this point your nittos should have some sweet grip. Do not drop the clutch because the hard gripping nittos will bog you down no matter how hard you drop. Let the clutch slowly out and then drop it, as you in an awd car. I dropped .5 in my 1/4 mile jusy by using those tires. Also keep your tire PSI around 15, it gives you maximum area without getting unstable at high speeds.

I used 15 psi and launched at 4000k
I too have the same tires on my 17's.
I run them at 15psi and launch at 3K rpm.
The tires gave me a night and day difference. And on the street, well, let's just say you'll know why they call them "cheaters".

actually, i do 1st gear in water and then do a 2nd gear burnout til i reach the line and that heats em up just enough. i never pulled the brake fuse or never power braked. As long as you rev high enough in 2nd gear to make a nice clean burnout it should all be good.
I heat them "slightly". I remember even with the BF tires, the manufactures always recommend not to over do it.
So far so good. My tires, however, have gotten more street than track use. So I haven't been able to play with the pressure at the track or "warm" my tires differently to see a difference.
