That looks like an awesome project. What an awesome car that is going to be. With a weight of about 2300lbs, it should be plenty fun as is.

What did you do for the motor mounts/tranny mounts, and the driveshaft and rear end? I think people should have more interest in this, then worrying about you going F/I. I honestly think you can do really well without it.

haha the 2300 lb figure is before i buy pre-made lexan from LS Automotive (ps. they make pre cut lexan for 240sx and z33)... and cf doors and hatch... yeah its going to rule. cant wait to get my vq s13 drifting along side your sr z33 this season... total alanis morrisette... isnt it ironic?

i tried using headers, believe me. i actually have them for sale in the classified section. unfortunately, the collector on the left bank resided exactly where my steering column attached to my rack...

as far as motor mounts, i made them custom with some 3/8" and 1/4" plate steel.
the tranny mount is a modified automatic ka trans mount...
amazingly, the oil pan sits ~10mm from the xmember and steering rack...
the driveshaft was made custom using parts from a g35 front section driveshaft.
the differential is a q45 r&p with a kaaz 240sx 2way clutch diff. the Q45 r&p is actually a 3.6 just like the stock z33 final drive, so gearing will be identical to all you z guys... for now.. if i feel like i want to gear up the rear, i will use the j30 3.9 r&p...

nope. ive considered this, actually, since im building the car from the ground up. the vq is around the same weight as the stock motor that comes in the car(although the trans is heavier, its between the axles in the middle of the car). with all the weight savings ive made throughout the car, especially to the front end (including cf hood, fpr fenders, eliminating all chassis wiring, etc), i think that the negligible weigh shift would be less beneficial than the added heavy gauge wiring/battery box/ decreased accessibility of a rear mounted battery... also, its a smaller battery than stock, without being an underpowered specialty "tuner" battery...

yup, the trans is all bolted up. custom shifter bracket to utilize the stock 240sx shifter/shifter location...
should be pretty interesting to see how i can adapt to 6speed gearing in a chassis that has become second nature with a 5speed...
