Official My350Z drift thread - Post pics of YOU drifting!
^ this is also why I have a s14 sitting in my back yard, was gonna build it for drifting but got impatience and got a z.
Now that I got the z I don't even want to work on the s14. From a cost perspective seems like the s14 would b cheaper to work on a replace parts but I love the z to much to invest in the s14.

Well you got to look at it this way.. The Z chassis is getting cheaper and more and more people are using them for drifting. With that said more and more things are going to be developed for the Z chassis for drifting. which is way I think the PBM kit is going to be a good step up for us
Also do not forget all those tie rods braking all the time and sr blowing up. While at ECB this year i am thankful to God i did not break anything for the 3 days drifting i did. While at that i saw countless 240's braking tie rods consecutively, gas tank rupturing and engine blowing and so on...not so cool to spend money to attend events and have it ended so soon because you ran out of tie rods or blew your engine. I would hammer them tie rods if it was me and put them back in lol..

i learned to drift in a z, which was a super easy for starting out, but i love the s chassis, feels like driving one teaches you more about drifting, and ill drive faster because doesnt bother me to put a dent in it

although if i had the money id rather build a Z, its a newer car and you have to worry about less overheating/oil lines and wiring breaking/etc
why did you two (ktran and rurouni) switch to the z from the s chassis?
as far as drifting goes, the s-chassis is the perfect chassis imo. i only switched over to get something that i didn't need a swap in to make decent power and could make decent enough power in stock form to not need and extra cop-attracting shet since i can't afford a dd and a tow rig. just curious....

Then i came to the conclusion to part it all out and pay off debt and get my life in order, it was a really hard decision but i think the right one. So once i was straight i wanted to get a nice newer ride i wouldn't have to do a ton of stuff to and still drift and have fun in. I didn't plan on getting the Z so soon but found a great deal back in April and everything worked out and winded up getting it and really love it and was quite surprised with how well it drifts so im happy

LONNGGG story, i'll try to keep it short...
I've had that s14 chasis for a long time, since 2003, first car bought with my own money during high school. Over the years crashed it a few times, but fixed it all, during those years...after 3 stock ka24de motors(2 blown while n/a and 1 blown while ka-t), on my 3rd blown engine it only had 40k miles(mint deal i got), i decided to build it because the rings fried. Built the engine, .20 over bore, arias pistons, ams rods, new everything, refreshed head, etc. the engine was built to be realible under boost at most 14lbs @ 305whp(not crazy hp, tuned and all) and during the time of the build, along came the mentality "if this engine blows, im parting or selling the car". A year or 2 after building the engine(maybe 2009), I got rid of my other s14(daily) and bought a z from a friend(theianmcdougall).
The z became the daily and the track s14(for a few yrs) was only a weekend/track car but still had insurance, i'd take it on the street every once in a while. 14lbs was a fun/hwy pull setting, i hardly ever drifted on 14lbs, roasted tires to easily, I always kept it on 10ish lbs for drifting. Well about early or mid 2010, just a regular drive down i10, the engine blew up on me, really grenaded.

dropped valve, destroyed piston #4 and left pieces of arias metal throughout the engine. I pegged rev limiter a lot while drifting and over time I guess it eventually caught up to me. stock valve train w/ new retainers, valve seals and stock s14 intake came w/s13 exhaust cam mod. i kno i should of upgraded during the build but ka's have great heads so at the time i didnt think it was necessary, plus it was low miles at the time and to add on top of that, being hot tanked/refreshed.
before the engine blew, we had a local event, the one event where i was able to use my new ma-motorsports knuckle setup and before that i didnt really expirence engine issues, i've heard some ticking sounds but thought it was something with the timing chain(common issues on 240s) due to the engine getting older. I probably put about 70k on that engine since the rebuild which includes drifting miles, road racing, drag, autox, abuse miles, and commuting to and from out of state events. If anyone knows me, they know that i dont trailer my drift cars(soon to change) and always drive to and from events, even out of state.
Also before that one event, while installing the knuckles, since 2008, I always had issues with my subframe cracking, reweld it and it'll crack again. so along with knuckles, I was changing out my rear subframe and when i took it out, i noticed that the driver side mounting stud had sheered away from the oem chasis metal....wtf

So along with this problem, which i didnt know how to fix or wanted to attempt to fix...i decided to reinstall the subframe and ignore the mount point situation, and decided to keep drifting the car as is since its been like that who knows how long....then a month or 2 later, the engine blew up, which was the final straw to sell the car or part it... i ended up selling it for $2500 blown and kept some stuff that was sentimental to me.
Anyway, when i wasnt working on my track and daily s14, I slowly moded the z with all that good ole suspension stuff that i believe in doing to every car i own, and since the 240 died, i started drifting the z and just stuck with it. Started to like it even more with the luxury stuff, a/c, cruise control, radio, newer car, non outdated stuff and especially being n/a with no engine issues was a huge plus.
it just sucks that the z cant fit shyt and being low on 18's suck ***.
thats all i dislike, i did get a z/trailer setup but it became janky(gotta fix it) and alwso acquired 20's for daily driving.
its funny, now the z is parked/weekend car and i have another s14 as a daily...

soooooooo much better. even just trying it out last night for a few minutes gave me a ton more confidence with entries.
the install wasn't too bad besides trying to get the nuts on around the tranny. glad my buddy has ninja fingers and was able to thread them on there haha i'll probably end up welding it in a few months.
btw, thank you for doing that write up. it was very helpful
