FS: Used VSLD, 4.08 final drive, and pumpkin housing
Guys,
I have for sale a used VLSD pumpkin with around 120k miles on it. A 4.08 final drive has been installed for the last 3000 miles or so.
I took the diff. apart to show the condition of the gears and prove in fact there was a 4.08 final drive installed. The gears were installed by a local transmission shop and required me to take them back twice due to gear noise issues. The third time the shims were adjusted they were acceptably quiet, but whining was still evident on deceleration. I was using royal purple gear oil and there was very little material on the magnetic drain plug when I drained the gear oil for disassembly. The whining could of partially be attributed to the solid differential bushings I had installed, but I make no claims as to this gearset being a quiet running gearset.
With that said, the only reason the gears are out of the car is because I am selling my car and returning everything to stock, otherwise they would still be on the car. Everything everyone says about 4.08 gears is pretty accurate. Gears are pretty short, but the acceleration difference is unbelieveable.
SOLD PM me or post in here with questions. For anyone looking for a number on the gearset, take the number of ring gear teeth divided by the number of pinion teeth. Equals 4.08.

Forgot to add some of that info, although most of it I guess could be assumed. Pumpkin is from a 2003 6 speed. Should be readily compatible with your 2005.
