Default Winter snow/ice and your power window

Now that winter is just around the corner and since I am getting my Z ready to battle the 5 months of snow, i will have my winter tires, snow brush/scrapper, and gloves handy.

I was wondering those that drive the Z though the winter, do you keep the snow brush/scrapper in side the passenger cabinet or in the trunk?

My concern is the small lowering movment of the window when we open our doors for the coupes. If there's heavy snow, freezing rain, or ice build up on the side windows, I am scared that when you open the door, the glass will not be able to lower a bit then the window will crash/scrape the A-pillar. Bending the glass or the A-pillar.

Therefore is it a good idea to keep the snow brush/scrapper in the trunk instead of inside the passenger cabinet? Or am I worrying too much?

My solution was to buy a $500 car to drive in the winter. Sorry, I know that doesnt help. Anyways, I dont think it would be a big deal. The only reason it lowers is to help shut the door due to air pressure. No worries I would think.

I can not stand having my Z stored for the winter for over 4 months. Whether I drive it or not, I still have to pay my monthly car payments.

Anyways, have you tried disconnecting the battery, so the glass will not lower, and then try to open the doors? Does it scrape the A-pillar?

It doesnt on mine. I taped the switches in the door panel to keep them up when I got my windows tinted. Had it on that way for 24 hours or so.

The windows somtimes get stuck rollin down in the winter but they do close just fine. Don't buy a beater, the Z is too much fun to drive in the winter, plus its fun to watch those SUV drivers in the ditch with their four-season tires as I drive by with my Pilot Alpines...ha ha ha...

I totally agree, I used to drive the MB C230 before and it was fun drifting around on snow when there were no cars and on wide roads. It really helps to improve driving skills so you know how to properly counter steer and handle a skidding car during the summer rain too.

I just put on my Bridgestone Blizzak LM22 this weekend. I should have no problems passing SUVs with all-season tires. After driving the Z with the LM22, I am so surprised how smooth and quit they are, almost the same as my original Bridgestone tires.

I am running the Michelin X-Ice on mine and I love them. I love driving mine in the winter, it is so much fun seeing the looks on other peoples faces when a sports car rolls by. I have rarely had a problem with the windows, just keep my scraper in the back. Good luck and have fun.

Well, I agree its fun to drive in the snow with a RWD car, but the salt and crap is my main worry. The highway/street maintenance people load up the salt with the fury here. Plus NY has a lot of people that forget how to drive when the first snowflake hits the ground.

Ah... winter's coming! Going to be my first winter with the Z, at first I was looking forward to it since last year me and my friends would go out for some drift sessions. But having a LOT of traction issues under recent rainy weathers, I'm beginning to wonder what's going to happen for winter.

Or maybe I should really replace those bald michelin pilot sports...

I salute those who drive it in the winter. I know the frame and engine are aluminum, but I can't bare to do it. That, and London (where I go to school) is THE WORST city for salt. MUCH worse than Ottawa, Toronto, or anywhere else I have ever been. The salt is still on the roads in April, even after the snow is long gone.

That, and I'm not really around until February. Currently in Vancouver for 4 weeks, then off to India for another 4 weeks. All in the name of work and education

My passenger window motor is dead and yes the window will hit the roof it the door is not closed properly. You have to close the door by pushing the top of the window so if flexes inwards a little as the door closes. I need to get it fixed but the $400 Nissan price tage for the motor PLUS labour is discouraging...

As for a scraper, I store a small hand-held one in the small CD storage container behindthe seats.

It's getting close to time for the steelies and Blizzaks to come out eh? I drove back from Mont Ste Marie last night in the pouing rain and 0 degrees and my 255/40/18 Azenis (on the wear bars no less) performed great with impressive grip. Far better than my old Kumho MXs did.
