SUV goes through Tim Hortons window
Jul 29, 2008 10:18 AM
Laura Stone
Staff Reporter
An SUV smashed into a Tim Hortons in Bradford early this morning, breaking four windows in a coffee shop that doesn't usually have a drive-thru.
Co-owner Perry Thornton said it was fortunate that there were just two employees and one customer in the store when the SUV hit it around 5:30 a.m.
"It was just before morning rush hour," said Thornton, who also runs the other two Tims in town. "Between 5:30 and 6, we start getting, you know, pretty busy in here, everybody heading in for their morning coffees to go to work."
No injuries were reported.
Thornton said four windows, each measuring about six feet by four feet, were broken when the front end of the yellow Ford Escape struck a brick pillar on the west side of the building.
"Once the brick pillar went, all the steel framing went to," said Thornton.
Police said the SUV ran up over a curb in the parking lot before hitting the store.
The collision left the vehicle's front end sticking about three feet into the building, where it struck a number of tables and chairs.
Police have not released the name of the driver, a 38-year-old Bradford woman, or said if any charges will be laid.
Clean-up crews are expected to be working for most of the day at the store, which does not have a drive-thru lane.

Olympic women screened for gender cheats
The first hurdle facing female athletes in next month’s Olympics will be proving they are women. Beijing has already set up a special laboratory and each woman will have to take a gender test.
Those athletes suspected of being men will have blood tests to examine their sex hormones, genes, and chromosomes.
As well as the lab tests, the external appearance of athletes will be examined.

Tyrese Gibson has revealed that he's in talks to join ThunderCats, a CGI movie based on your lunchbox from 1987. From ComingSoon:
Tyrese said that he's been very involved in the attempt to bring the classic '80s cartoon series to the big screen and seemed to hint that a deal is very nearly complete. We asked him what character he'd be playing and he just smiled and said that there's a number of options on the table.
