Hey got an 06 but havent had it long enough to tell if my car has the issue but apparently from what i am reading all the 06's and 05 35th anniv and track have it. So i am wondering if anybody in the east section has had their engine swaped or been to a dealer to deal with this issue. just because it will probably be easier for me to go to a dealer who already knows of the problem. there was a technical service bulletin though so maybe they all know? i have it printed out and im gonna take it in with me next oil change to see if i need my engine swapped. if anyone in this section has an 06 and has seen a dealer about it let me kno!

I noticed that the OC got really bad after I hit 47+k. And coincidentally the same time I switched to synthetic oil

yes they were being a byatch at first, until the TSB came out. Then it was no problems.

i plan on asking them to do a oc check next oil change. can you give me any tips or anything i dont know much about it.

first off check your oil, yourself. Let your car sit over night, in the morning go and check your oil, it should be right at the H" marker. If it is not, get a ruler and measure in "mm" how far it is away from the H" mark.
Then take it in and see what they say.
They will ask that you start the OC testing which is a PITA. They will need to check it 3 times in 1000k intervals.

All dealerships should already have the TSB, so I dont think you will need to take it in with you. But I would recommend at least looking at it.

I was loosing more then 4 litres / 3500km..

I went to Stclair nissan. The service manager Joe seems to be fairly knowledgeable, Peter does not. It was quite stressful speaking/dealing with Peter before the TSB was released, he (and another) insisted it was normal for me to be loosing 4litres of oil within that mileage...
That said, I would not recommend them as my first choice.
However they completed my engine swap, so they may be useful as a last resort.

 

I wonder if this is a very common problem or not....Any idea what causes the bad oc??? Anyone hear had the same problem other than Church in the GTA area??? Seems like the Z had a lot of problems to be honest..I guess to fix the problem once and for all, nissan should give us VQ35HR instead...lol

have you been pushing your car, i have an 07 and after a day of touge running i have lost almost a quarter of my oil haha

 

Even when pushing the car hard. 4 Litre for 3500km is pretty drastic.


The length between Low and High mark is 1 Litre.

You couldnt see any oil on my dipstick,
When getting my oil changed out, my mech informed me that I was more then 4 litres shy. He was in shock, lol...

Also one time Xuperxero and others were witnesses at CG..

 

I just blew my motor 2 months ago. Drove the car for 4K km ( tracked it once ). Blew cause there was practially no oil in it at all. There was no leak whatsoever. And like church suggested, let the car sit there for half a day before you use that dipsh!t. Cause the readings are way off if you try to use it after driving it.

 

According to FSM. You're suppose to wait 15 minutes before checking oil so oil can fully drain to the bottom.

For Church's case... His dipstick read empty as not a drop of oil on dipstick

I always carry spare litre of brake fluid, engine oil, and coolant with me now. haha

 

but what about the weight?! haha....need some weight reduction!

 

LOL **** then my problem must not be bad yet I've driven approx 33-3500k's since last change (most of which were hwy kms commin from Florida) and my dipstick reads half right now. Dont think they will gimme a new engine for that its bs though i gotta check my oil now every like 500-1000ks to make sure theres oil in the thing they should just recall them all. this is serious and even dangerous for someone who isnt aware of this and blows their engine on the highway

 

IMO, an engine built in the year 2005-2006 should not loose or burn ANY OIL!

 

I haven't really followed the OC thread, have they determined what exactly causes the OC. Is it the rings?
In my case my car is more of a garage queen, I will put most of my kms on it driving to the track and back. But having a revup engine I am a bit concerned. I know with the amount of kms I put on it I could never get nissan to replace my engine. I do check my oil frequently and (following the break in procedure in the owners manual) I did go through over 1/2L by the time I reached 4K before changing the oil.
I know after a track day I do have to top up the level, all depends on temp how hard I drove, etc... I wouldn't say what I have burned to be excessive, just yet, but I would say it is expected in these situations.

Now after reading what was posted above I would have to say part of the problem could be operator neglect. Personally, I want to know what is going on with my car that is why I monitor things.
Now a person not mechanically inclined who just starts their car and drives off and notices that their oil light comes on under hard braking already has engine damage. If they expect to drive their car and get the oil changed every 5K without burning any oil is clearly mistaken.

 

IIRC, they have not released a valid reason. From my research most are speculating that the rings are the issue.
It seems like a shot in the dark as to whether or not the OC continues with the v2 engine. Some still consume, others do not.

 

1/2L in 4000km is quite different from 4L in 3500km though...

 

hahah, ya especially considering my car was a daily driver...

If I tracked I would be checking my oil constantly, but for a DD, I should not have to check the oil every 500k... Wait, unless I mistakenly bought a rotary engine
