Default Winter Driving

Did anyone drive their Z through the winter? Did you have snow tires and rims or what? How did the VDC perform and did yo need to turn it off when driving in all kinds of snow?

I drove mine through last winter, which here in Virginia was moderately harsh. The road crews here aren't as effective as those in Toronto, and our impressive number of SUVidiots makes things unnecessarily interesting. I put over 3k mi. on my Z in December alone, in a mix of weather up and down the east coast, but only had real difficulty on half-plowed city streets.

The stock summer tires absolutely sucked in the cold weather, pretty much as you'd expect. I almost got stuck a couple of times, and VDC, although fine for moving down the road, is no use at all if you're trying to get out of a soft spot.

I wouldn't recommend summer tires for winter driving, and I won't be doing that again. I've put new rims on with Pilot Sport A/S, and if that turns out not to work well enough, I've now got a spare set of stock wheels for Blizzaks.

NEVER, EVER.. Dont even think about driving Z with the stock tires. 0% traction 100% accident! When it snowed first time in toronto last winter, I got stuck on the road almost 7 hours. I finally called the tow truck. If there's no snow on the road but temp. is really low... it's okay to drive but be very alert and watch out!

'VDC' DOES WORK and it saved me many time. Get a set of Blizzaks then it should be no problem in wintertime. That's what many Z folks did last winter and there was no accident. Good luck.
