ALSO it's a 08 HR, and it's only been driven for about 2000 KM rite now.. Still Fairly new. Does that make a difference to mileage?

 

might be a bit high... perhaps from all the city driving.

I believe I average about 12.8L/100KM for my '06.

 

i get around 450-500km per tank but then again i set my shifter light thingy to 6k lol. and i use sunco 94

 

i set my light at 3xxx so it flashes when i pass 120km/h mark i sometimes get carried away

and regarding mileage, im getting somewhere around 18-19mpg, normal driving, not gunning not trying to save gas...

Your problem is three fold, partly the fuel you are using, partly the octane and partly the weather.

Fristly, the fuel you are using has 10% ethanol. Ethanol has a really low BTU value (almost half regular gasoline) so 10% of the fuel in your tank will only provide half as much energy. So putting fuel into your tank with 10% ethanol will instantly drop your mileage by 5% overall. Yes you get higher octane for knock resistance, but it does nothing to help you in the fuel economy department.

Secondly, higher octane fuel has a lower BTU value than Regular fuel by about 3-5%, so you must burn more of it to achieve the same amount of energy. Sunoco Ultra 94 is really Supreme 91 with 10% ethanol in it to achieve the 94 octane rating (more or less). Ethanol has an octane rating around 140, so blending the fuels together is how they achieve the octane rating. Running a car on regular will achieve better mileage than it's higher octane counterpart. So the Ultra 94 is killing you on two fronts, the ethanol by 10% and the fact that it's 91 by another percentage or two.

Thirdly, the cold weather will make you burn more fuel as well. The air is cold and dense, so to maintain your computers air to fuel ratio during closed loop driving (normal non WOT driving style) more fuel will need to be added to maintain an optimal mixture. That is the function of the IAT (Intake Air Temperature Sensor) is to monitor the air temperature and adjust the fuel mixture accordingly. Colder temp, more fuel to maintain that balance.

Want to achieve better mileage now armed with this info? Run regular octane gas and drive when it's warm. Yeah not very easy to do I know.

If you are just driving around town, the lower octane fuel will not harm the engine as long as it's higher quality gasoline (Shell, Sunoco etc). Octane only matters at WOT when detonation is a problem. During closed loop driving there is so little load on the engine you can run the lowest octane fuel and the car will drive normally. If you were to floor the car and go to WOT inducing Open Loop (Ecu ignores most of the sensor reading and runs on a fix map) you would have detonation all over the place. SO if you can drive normally then low octane fuel will work. My talon had 450whp and ran mid 11's. I ran 87 octane to the track, drained the fuel and put in VP race gas and raced the car all day. Drained the tank again and put my 87 back in and drove home. On 87 I could make 11psi of boost with no detonation around 280whp. Plenty for daily driving.

3. type of fuel. u use Sunoco 94 which has 5-10% ethanol. (Shell 91 has no ethanol)

PS. I get 10.2L/100KM city and highway drive.
550-600km per tank.

Today I just came back from US. half tank got about 440km (all highway.)

I am just too happy about it.

 

aRYip is right, run Shell 91 it's ethanol free. Honestly if you can run regular in the car. Just drive it easy during the winter (you should be anyway) and it will be fine. Just don't rip the car when your runnin regular, and you HAVE to remember. If you think that will be a problem then pump in the best non-ethanol Supreme you can find. Petro Canada, Sunoco and Pioneer all use ethanol in most of their fuels.

 

I've always stayed away from Sunoco's 94 after I found out it was just 91 octane with some additives. Additives in my car? No way. I've stuck with Shell 91 ever since. No problems with it, even though some people are skeptical after Shell's gas caused some starting issues a long time ago.

There's mentality behind which gas station to use as well. I just look at facts, google can give you a lot of this information. Shell is additive free and ethanol free = cleaner engine.
