Default 2009 BMW 135i

So yeah, I've been thinking about getting a 135i for the past few days, and I want you guys to convince me otherwise. As far as I know, both cars have similar performance even though the stock 370Z doesn't come with twin turbos like the 135i. So if someone did fit twin turbos on their Z, how would it go up against the 135i?

As for value, the 135i costs a grand more than the 370Z, and that's just the base model. The Z comes with the touring package as standard, I think.

I'm talking about the 370, not the 350. The 370Z and the 135i have very similar performance on track (virtually a tie), so maybe Reality350 is right.

what I can tell you about the 135 is that it has a pretty bad pogo effect going on in the rear. The suspension combined with the short wheelbase makes for a hell of a lot of vertical motion over anything but the smoothest roads, meaning that even on canada's highway, you're going to have the rear bouncing, and when you're driving spiritedly, the lack of body control may be frustrating. That being said, that engine is a peach. The car is kind of overpriced though, not much cheaper than a 3 series.

I was at the auto show yesterday. I saw a 135 convertible with a bunch of factory add on’s. It was nice looking but came to $57,000 plus tax. That’s a lot for a 1 series.

I saw a 370z there too, they start at $39,900 now. $45,000 for the model shown.

Seems like the forum newbies are getting more and more demanding

For what it's worth, a TT'd 350z let alone a TT'd 370z would *destroy* a 135i.

Have you test drove them?

I personally felt the 135i handled poorly - severe understeer. Fast as hell in a straight line....but handling was just horrid.

Didn't 370Z have overheating issues on track?

I vote 335i or 350Z TT.

I have not driven a 370 yet, but I have driven a 135 on a track and that thing was fast in every way.

But...The proportions on that thing make it look like you could stand up in the driver's seat and not hit your head on the roof. (Not pretty, IMHO)

I think the 370 might be a little faster,(stock vs stock) but that's just "bench racing" since I have yet to drive a 370 around the block, much less on a track.

Both need extra coolers for different fluids, but I think BMW started including them after complaints. (I remember one auto mag complaining about it in one of their reviews.)

The 370 seems to have them available as a dealer add-on.

Here's a comparison of both cars, by the way. Most of you might have already seen this before.

Does the stock 370Z without turbos also overheat? Either way, I hope Nissan sorts out this problem if it turns out to be serious.

It was an oil temperature issue IIRC, I know BMW had to start adding oil coolers, every magazine that tested the 335 on a track was getting a reduced power mode once the oil got too hot.
