Default Looking to buy 2 245/45r18 tires, what do you think of my choices? feedback..

UPDATE: April 2009

i have bought the tires now, i ended up going with the Falken 452s found for $220 installed. I found them being sold from $220 to $270

the post

-----------

I am looking to buy 2 new rear tires for the 350.

I put around 5000-7000km a year on the car, I sometimes drive it hard on the street and I make 20 or so passes at the track a year.

I am not looking to spend a ton, but I am not looking to throw some cheap crap on there either. So I am looking for a mid price range tire. Here is what I have found so far.

LOW RANGE $175-$220

Nexen 3000 – w rated $175

Falken 452 – y rated $220 -- found new lower price
web http://www.falkentire.com/xhtml/tire...egory=3&tire=1

MID RANGE $220-$270(the range i am looking to spend)

General tire – Exclaim UHP – w rated $220
web http://www.generaltire.com/tires/T1/Exclaim-UHP

Cooper Zeon 2XS - w rated $230 - new tire added
web http://www.coopertire.com/html/produ...t=Track%20Rear

Good year Eagle GT – w rated $235
Web http://www.goodyeartires.com/goodyea...ea=Performance

HIGH RANGE $270 +

Goodyear F1 GSD3 – w rated $290 -- found new lower price
Web http://www.goodyeartires.com/goodyea...ea=Performance

Bridgestone Potenza RE40 – W rated $299
Web http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tires...productID=1013

Have any of you had experiences with these tires. I am looking for some feedback. Which one would you recommend?

Stay away from the following brand:
RE040 (These are stock on the 350z, do you not recall how bad they were?)
Proxes 4 (Not a good performance/price ratio)

I've tried Falken FK451, so I assume 452 would be pretty similar. I've had good experience with it especially in the rain. I could floor it in 2nd gear without wheelspin in heavy rain!

Other brands, I have no experience with.

I have 452 all around on my car they are pretty good. I have previously had PS2's and Rosso's and S03's and they were better tires, but at a significantly higher price.

I'm surprised bridgestone re-01r are that cheap... but there's a lot of good reviews about the re-01r, they're comparable (if not better) than Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec

PM Reality350.

I'm sure he can get the same Re-01R 245/45/18 for about $216/tire

and 245/40/18 for $195/tire

Hope this helps in making your decision easier

have a look at the Bridgestone RE760. I bought a set when I sold the car in the spring. Seem to have good reviews and the price point is good. I bought mine from Simply Tire

you're missing a great tire...the sumitomo htrz III. Its rated quite a bit a higher than the Falken 451 (its a max performance summer tire as opposed to a UHP all season) and has less road noise as well. Its a really good tire, imo...and Sumitomo makes Falkens, btw.

check it out

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...ay.jsp?ttid=93

the HTRZ III finished first in this group test of tires that include the contisportcontact 3, re50, and so on (all of which are better than the Falken FK452)

If you are driving hard, and making so many outings to the track, a tire with a lot of grip would be something you'd probably enjoy quite a lot.

If I were you OP, I'd jump on the RE01R's from tire rack cuz they're on clearance for $139 a piece! Compared to $251 before.

Hell I'd get new ones all around at that price. But I'm not sure what wheel size you're running, especially to only run a 245 in the rear.....

20+ times at the track a year? I'd go for the re-01r or the new re-11..
