New Bose TSB Available! Brantford Nissan Rocks!
Hey All,
Just got back from Brantford Nissan with the G (had springs installed) and booked the Z for some work next Thursday. This work including the new Bose TSB, fixing the old Bose TSB!
For those of you who don't know, Rick, the parts manager at Brantford Nissan, is an old-school, diehard Z-fanatic. A longstanding member of the Ontario Z-Car Club. An all around, cool guy!. The guys out there are great and, because Rick cares as much about our Z-Cars as we do, everything is top notch! The service, the parts, the mechanics, everything! I will no longer bring my baby to Plaza Nissan here in Hamilton (on top of the better overall experience, the drive for me to get to either dealership is about the same amount of time!)
As soon as I get the new fix I'll post some findings on the site. Pretty sure, though, the Z Bose will never match the one in the G.
Cheers All!

Hey all,
Sorry, but I didn't have a chance to get the amp swapped out. Came down with this nasty flubug and it knocked me out for Thursday. Thing is, with the forecast upcoming weather, the car may be done for the season... hope not... I'm taking off for the first week of November... if it's still nice out I'll get the swap done, otherwise, first thing in the spring....
Cheers!

Ya, the weather is suppose to be kinda crappy for the next little while. I just washed mine last night, and put my first coat of Zaino on, so it's sitting all nice and purdy in my garage.
It would be really nice if the weather was nice for a couple more weeks, I just got my car 3 weeks ago and have only 500KM on it!

I received a letter from Nissan regarding the new TSB for the Bose amp.
Questions:
Is this new TSB supposed to correct the previous TSB?!
I have already had the original amp swapped with the one recommended by the previous TSB, and am quite satisfied with the sound quality. Has anyone with the double swap noticed a significant improvement?

Last week when my dealer ordered the new amp, Toronto depo had 135 new amps on hand.
The new amp is SUPPOSE to fix the bass issue, and clean up the sound of the audio. Mine sounds really 'tinny' right now. Very little bass, hardly any midrange, and lots of high end hiss.
A good test is the Metallica Black album. That CD normally sounds good on almost ANYTHING, I put it in my Z and I cringe, sounds like Hetfield is singing through a tin can.
The amp is using some sort of DSP on the signal coming from the head unit. They have updated the AudioPilot issue and the DSP software in the new amps.
So yes, this amp is an update to the updated amps they were putting in earlier.
I'm waiting for a 'nice' day to take mine in to get the swap done.

so about this tsb if we didn't get a letter......can we go to any dealer and get this "fix"
I haven't received my letter yet, I just went into the dealer and told them I talked to Bose (I did) and Bose told me to call Nissan Canada, as they have a resolution available to the problem. So I called Nissan Canada, and logged my complaint and told me to contact my dealer.
So, a couple Saturdays ago we went in to test drive the Armada, and talked to the Service Manager. She tried to play the "what are you talking about" game, but she quickly knew that I knew what I was talking about. So she ordered tha amp right away.
The dealers will not admit to anything is the way it seems. I even asked about getting an alignment done, because of the pulling to the right problem, and she balked at that too, until I mentioned that's fine if they don't want to do it, they can just buy me new tires when these wear out because of improper alignment. She offered right away to make the appointment to get the alignment done.

The first fix sounds ok, not spectacular. I guess I have to get the second fix now.
Ok - my question
I went to the dealer today to get an oil change done and also asked about the latest bose fix... and they told me that my VIN number doesn't apply...
For those of you who got the latest bose fix, what's your Canadian VIN number or build-date?
I thought that all Z's built prior to Mid 2003 were affected?

Did your letter from Nissan mention any TSB number ? Is it NTB03-087 ?

Just got me new amp put in. It ROCKS now. James Hetfield doesn't sound like he's signing under water and in a tin can anymore.
It sounds like a new stereo, the bass really thumps, and the clarity is much better.

I am happy for you. Did you have to twist somebody's arm at Village Nissan to get the new amp ? What problem/symptom did you tell them you have with your Bose ?
I call them last week and they said they will have to listen to it first.

I complained about the lack of sound clarity. Call Nissan Canada and talk to them. Tell me you are unhappy with the sound quality of your Bose system, and that you KNOW there is a fix for it. Be firm, but be polite.
No arm twisting needed. I got it done at Waterloo Nissan. I just told the service manager that I called Bose, Bose told me to call Nissan Canada, which I did and then Nissan Canada told me to go see my dealer about a new replacement amp.
Service manager initially wanted for me to wait for the letter, then changed her mind and ordered the amp right away. She got onto the computer, checked availability and said there were 135 of the new amps in stock at the Toronto depot.
Why would Nissan have 135 new amps in stock at the Toronto depot if there is no problem? I don't quite understand why some dealers are giving you guys a hard time.
The only reason I can come up with, is that Nissan is being very stingy with paying the dealer for warranty work. I noticed Nissan alloted .3 hours to swap the amp, which is 18 minutes!!! There is no way the tech can take the rear panels apart, install the new amp, and re-install the panels in 18 minutes.
I think this is why dealers are shying away from warranty work as much as possible, they loose money doing it.
I wonder if this is an industry wide situation. I have noticed the last year, whener I take my Jeep in to get warranty work done, the dealer is ALWAYS trying to talk me into doing extra work that I have to pay for. I guess they figure they are making minimal money on the warranty repair, they might as well try to get some more money while the car is in the shop. This is my 3rd Jeep in 8 years, and they NEVER use to push anything on me while the car is in for warranty work. Now it's every time I take it in.
That's enough rambling for now.
