I think I bought a lemon. :(
Hello all,
I recently bought an used 2006 Nissan 350Z with 41,000 km from Guelph Infiniti Nissan just a little over a month ago. I was under the impression that coming from the dealership (and not some random used car lot), the car was properly inspected and the oil was changed (which I believe was promised me verbally).
Fast forward to today, I notice that my oil levels are low, it's pitch black, oil pressure is extremely low, the car makes loud spinning noises from the engine when the accelerator is let off (almost like a tapping noise as well), power is greatly reduced, the clutch is dying, and shifting is extremely notchy. A check engine light has also recently come on - which I have checked as a valve timing issue (P0011 and P0021 from a OBDII reader). I feel as if there are a million things wrong with the car and it's only been a month.
The car is still under Nissan's basic power-train warranty for a few more months. The dealership I bought my 350Z from is Guelph Infiniti Nissan.
What recourse do I have here? Are there implied warranties that I should know about? A service advisor at a different dealership told me that there should be a basic warranty of around two weeks to a month for used cars bought from dealerships and that I could return it due to all the problems presented already. Is this true?
.. or am I SOL?
Thanks.

Well, taking it back is a given. I didn't want to show up complaining about the car at the dealership without actually understanding the situation - which is why I made this post. The more information I have, the better my chances are at getting this problem resolved.
I already know about the oil consumption TSB. I have a feeling this has something to do with that as well.

Take it back to the dealership. Just because you bought a used car that's having issues, doesn't make it a lemon.
But definitely take it back.

Def take it to them. I'd check over all of your paperwork, I'm almost positive you will have signed paperwork or at the very least recieved paperwork stating what they will cover and how much of the cost they will cover if something breaks. If they try and stump you call Nissan and get the contact info for your regional Nissan rep, explain to him, and see what he will do for you. Sometimes regional reps will go the extra mile, sometimes they don't care. Be patient at this point, you want to keep in good standing in case none of this works. You also have to keep this moving along as fast as possible in case there is a time limit on how long you can claim it is the dealers fault.
If none of the above works, contact the dealer and threaten with a lawyer, (again, in a timely fashion), and if they still don't budge tell them you're going to put the Z on a flat bed with signs on the side saying "I bought this car at Guelph Infiniti Nissan and it died less than a week later!" and drive it up and down the road in front of them. Got a motor replaced in a work truck for a guy I used to work for.

clutch dying? thats wierd... on a car with only 41K? i have an 03 with 90K and have a lot of life left.... i've tracked the car too. you can atleast get that fixed under the powertrain warantee.
As for the noise, sounds like knocking for sure.
My friend's 07 convertible had the same symptoms and his motor blew months later, the first time he went to track. He wasn't so smart when he called nissan to get the car towed straight from the track. They knew he was tracking the car, and regardless of how much of a fight he put up, they didn't help him.

'06 manuals are notorious for oil consumption issues. Is the original car warranty the same in Canada as the U.S.? 36k miles? (App. 60k kilometers)
If so, the drivetrain should still be covered under the original warranty. Not sure about any other warranty issues though.

Sounds like you should have used the search function, my friend.
And also - You've waited a month with this many issues to bring it back? They're going to nail you to the wall for that, if they can.
Take it in, sounds like oil consumption to the max. Make sure you keep a few quarts in your trunk and monitor regularly. Get an oil change asap.

You got a lemon. Take it to them, tell them what happened. Tell them what you know (TSB) and if they give you trouble then threaten to lawyer up.
Do you live in Guelph? I wouldn't drive it any more at all.
I had a bad experience at Guelph Nissan when I was 19 buying a RSX-S... The deal got all fu#ked up.. But I heard their service is ok...
I think it will work out for you.
* Update - I was at Guelph Nissan on biz today and talked to a tech. He said you will have to complete oil consumption testing and that your not to add oil or anything.
So you really have no worries.

This kinda scares me as I was possibly gonna buy an 2006 350Z Roadster from them this month. For those who have dealt with them, are they a reputable dealership or should I steer clear?
mmmken - keep us posted with your result and good luck!

Roadsters don't have the rev-up, they have the non-rev DE, meaning the chances of them burning oil are slim to none, or at least not as likely as they are if you had the rev-up. IMO, the 06 roadster is the best choice as far as DEs go, as the 06 will have the updated bumper, and lights, with the more reliable yet slightly less powerful engine.

Must pull service records from the dealer on used cars. If the dealer refuses to give this to you during the purchase process I walk. I am willing to bet you did not review this car's service record. Sounds like the techs cleared the codes and the dealer sold you a car they knew would create sales for the service center. not a bad tactic from a business perspective. do more homework during the purchase!
