friend borrowed car, had accident...can't write off, what do you think?
Wasn't really his fault...but there was oil on the road and he jumped a kerb and hit a tree. There doesn't look to be any frame damage because the impact was all the way on the side of the car. The front rebar is banged up a bit, and I think the tie rod is broken, the hood will have to be replaced, the light, the fender, and the bumper....also that little fluid reservoir near the front side, and the alternator I think (which needed replacing anyway). I'm not reporting to insurance....so what do you guys think the cost would be?

Yeah, I'd say at least 5k. Hopefully there isn't any frame damage.

If your friend had his own car insurance AND has an option that covers damages when he drives another person's car, then his insurance should cover it.
If not, your own insurance will have to pay up and your insurance might go up.
