Default Awesome, my works got messed up :P

My brother, in an attempt to treat me for my birthday got my oil changed, interior shampooed and exterior washed. Looks like the place he took the car to for a wash put some kind of wheel acid on the wheel and it ****ing destroyed the clear coat layer on the polished lip.

(I have Black work vs-xx 19's +29 offset with a polished lip if that helps you get an idea of what the rims look like)

Now, the previously mirror polished lip (albeit with some pitting from regular road crap) has a cloudy blue look to it. No amount of buffing with any sort of product will help (power ball/waxes etc)

I did go to the car wash to complain but the owner guy wasn't willing to take responsibility so ... I have to get these fixed.

Where to?

I spoke to work out in California, and they can ship me new polished hoops for my rims, and i'd need to get a shop to dismantle the 3 piece rim and cut the silicone bead or whatever holds the damaged hoop on and replace with new ones...but just the hoops cost $1100 US + shipping and installation (which I just know will be a nightmare...I can just hear the sound of them breaking off while i drive to work or something)

Carcones can do something about it - but they havent seen the rims yet, so cant say whether they can fix them for sure...but they said they can definitely paint them whatever color i want (lip and center piece).

My Z is a Black 03, so barring any possibility of returning the wheels to stock, what color comp should i look at painting the wheels?

Was thinking:

Annodized Red dish and matte black mesh or

Black dish and Black mesh or

Black dish and gold mesh

Black dish copper mesh

Polished lip (if polished is possible) and gold mesh

Polished lip (again, if possible) and copper mesh

thoughts? opinions?

all are welcome, as well as shop endorsements...

Never let a car wash do your car ppl... If you have polished aluminum wheels anyway..
I'm pretty sure Carcones will polish em up and they will look fine. But if the wheel has an anodized clear coat it will be gone obviously, but since they will all get the treatment they will look the same.
It will cost a few hundred but I think you will do ok. GL

Stripping that clear is important, then you can polish the aluminum.

My meister's clear was destroyed quickly. Get them apart and stripped fully.

The bare aluminum takes polishing quite well. The car wash should take
responsibility for their fakup.

Just for future reference.

Work doesn't POLISH or CLEAR lips, they annodize them and let them sit. When any kind of acidic wheel cleaner touches them they annodizing loosens and the shine is gone.

The reason your clear was gone... there never was any.

Good luck, I bet your brother feels terrible about it.
