Any GMRS 2-way radio set should work as they are standardized. I'm looking at picking up these ones on sale this week at The Source unless someone knows of anything better.
They all claim ridicules ranges but figure we would have about 1km range while traveling or at the event.

Not to put a hamper on your plans. But if you're coming from Toronto why drive all the way to Indiana? Instead you should meet up with the Michigan crew (Great Lakes Z Club) because every year we caravan down and usually end up forming a huge caravan with th Ohio and Kentucky Clubs.

What day would the Michigan club be going down? We are planning to leave Thursday morning from Fort-Wayne.
The reason I'm specifically meeting up with the iNi club guys is I've been working with one of their members for several months now to get the Graphics done for my new company RJM Performance. I've talked multiple times with him about meeting up and heading to Zdayz together as part of their clubs group.

Now when I google mapped our route including the stop in Fort-Wayne for the night vs going straight down through Michigan/Ohio the total driving distance only changed by about 50miles so it isn't even worth talking about.
Possibly we can all meet up with the Great Lakes club members as well. I'll talk to the iNi guys and see what we can come up with.

It would be amazing if we can all group up and run together.
