Z350Lover,
How does the Motec work with the OEM ECU? Is the engine harness routed into the Motec first, then the motec is connected to the ECU? Does the OEM ECU interfere with the Motec? Just curious, may be doing this in the future...

ALong,

I am not too sure how it is connected really, but I can be able to ask this kinda information for you later when I go pick up the car... the engine builder only told me that motec takes over the engine management control..... as in details of how it is wired up, I am not too sure...

Also the engine builder told me that if the throttle is control by Motec computer, the idle seems to be rough, but he will try his best to tune that up (as he thinks it is the right way to do so because the whole engine management is at motec and it is not logical to have the throttle control still at the OEC ecu)... but if he cannot get the idle smoother from the motec, we will be usig the standard ECU throttle control (therefore, I will still get to keep the VDC).... and also apparently, that's how people did that with the 350z in australia according to him...

cheers,

richie

Keep us updated, this car is going to be crazy when its done. The GrandAm Cup racecars here in the States (Similar to your Nations Cup Series) use NA motors with Nismo cams, balanced and blueprinted engine internals and Motec ECU and they put out somewhere between 350-380hp at the Engine, I suspect yours will also be in this range

ALong,

I will be happy if I have 300-320HP from the ENGINE though... don't think the engine will ever go up to 350-380HP....

As many people might have already known that US rear wheel dyno power is always more than the ones done in Australia.. I don't have my base dyno, but with the following mods, I output something like 167rwKW, which is around 228rwHP

1. Nismo Cat Back
2. Crawford cats
3. JUN Flywheel
4. UR Pulley
5. K&N filter
6. UniChip

We are hoping to see around 190-200 rwKW (if we are lucky), which is around 258 - 272 rwHP after the following mods:

1. Nismo S1 276 Cams
2. Nismo VTC
3. Nismo con-rod bolts (add no HP, but goes to 7200)
4. Valve Springs (add no HP)
5. Fujitsubo Headers
6. Motec M600 ECU + Cam control + Drive-by-wire modules
7. Better spark plugs

Will keep you guys posted for sure!

cheers,

richie

VTC = Variable Timing Control, this can be seen on the first page of this thread. The round unit which has "55 degrees" written on it.

cheers,

Aren't those the variable timing controllers for the cams that can advance/retard valve timing?

ChrominumBlue:

I don't think you can run 12:1 with 93 though... you might have a lot of problem tuning the car correctly. My engine builder already told me that I had to run at least 98 octane if I was going for 11.5:1 already.... so I don't think that will be safe with 93 octane though.... but don't quote me on that, I might be wrong!

N/A route is a pain to get extra HP, don't expect a lot out of it... just like I have spent a large amount of money that I could have gone for APS TT on this project (with more changes left), but what I really love is just the extra revving out of the engine and also I would like to be at the safe side as well (to avoid any possiblility of blowing the engine with TT setup)!

Set your goal clearly before you go ahead for any project, otherwise you are not gonna be happy with any result!

cheers,

richie

There is always something to be said about a fast NA car!

you absolutely do not need 98 RON to run 11.5:1....there are cars that run that from the factory.

It is all in the ecu tuning. Max I'd run on pump gas (93) is around 11.5.

Thanks adrian!.... I did not know that.... was told that we are having lower compression ratio is because that people might want to run on the lower octane fuel... but I think as what you said, it is all up to the ECU tuning, same as the E46 M3, they are running on 11.5:1 in the state without any fuel problem!!! That was my bad!

cheers,

richie

I just wanted to clear some thing up, Australian 98 RON is equivalent to American 91 octane, which I think is MON. They are different mesures and they are calculated differently.

I've no idea, you would have to talk to Peter from SI, he's the one who told me about it, since I was thinking about advancing the ignition since our RON was so much higher then US. Well, it turns out that the ocatanes are about the same.

I totally forgot about the different ratings among our countries

98 RPN works out to be 93/94 octane as rated in the US - this is what the Z calls for stock and would run fine at higher than stock compression ratio so long as the ecu is properly tuned.
