First feedback on UR flywheel
Hi Z owners,
Here`s a review you may be intrested in : An Unorthodox flywheel review on a 2003 Z.
I just had it installed with my new tranny. The new tranny by the way, is quite tight going into 5th and 6th gear - no worries though. It feels solid and shifts well!
The new clutch disc is a bit grabby compared to my old one with 14k on it. The new clutch engages quite a bit higher on the pedal push than the old one. The mechanic (a friend) said the old disc was a bit `blue` so I`m wondering a bit about that. The car was owned for 6k before I got it, so that`s the explanation I`m coming up with. Anyways, the old disc is out, and a new one is in.
THE FLYWHEEL
The aluminum flywheel is great! I do care about aesthetics/sound of the car, and I can say there is no ``chatter`` ever - none at all. The car sounds IDENTICAL at idle (even in a garage) to the old stock setup. Under power at low rpms - below 2200 - there is often/sometimes a ``sand`` noise or, a whoosh similar to an a/c vent set on a low setting. It does not bother me at all - and I`ve only had about 25 miles to get used to it. Give it a 9/10 on the aesthetics/sound scale.
The performance is definitely noticeable! I have lightened my Z about 125 lbs overall with this flywheel ( about 15 lbs vs stock 30) and several other mods (battery, no spare, track rims, etc). Interestingly enough the box that the flywheel came in quoted the shipping weight as ``18 lbs``, with perhaps a 1/2 pound or so covering the minimal cardbox weight. I know that any and all advertisements for this flywheel rate it at 12lbs. Perhaps the steel ring gear and (light) flexplate aren`t being included in the 12 lb quoted weight? Either way, NO MATTER! The car does rev noticeably quicker and easier in neutral and under accel. It feels like the car shed 200-300 lbs in the quick, moderate trials I`ve done. I`m taking it easy on the new clutch and flywheel for the first 500 miles or so - keeping it under 4200 rpm and rarely giving it more than 3/4 throttle - but I can already detect a lighter, quicker car! A very satisfying mod!

So did you have a stock clutch put in, or some sort of aftermarket heavier one? I heard this flywheel works with the stock one.
I'm very interested, as I've targeted this as my next mod.

Bought mine from adam at Z1 when i had 1000 miles on my Z ive been smoking everyone since. It works great with the stock clutch. Not sure which clutch works well with the ur i believe adam said act is the best one for this flywheel. He also said act is the best bang for the buck.
I rate this flywheel a 10

UR flywheel
Sorry I wasn`t clear at the top...
I`m using the stock clutch with a new disk.
I think I`m about 75% there on driving this setup. Probably need a few more miles to get comfy. Can`t wait for full thottle and high rpms!

break-in...yeah flywheel with new clutch!
Flywheel is fine from the get go, but the clutch disc, I`m told, needs 500 miles or so of moderate driving/use. Call me overly cautious.
