Default Level ten Tranny Upgrade...just got off phone...

Hey i just got off the phone with Level 10, i asked them basically what they do to to the 350z tranny, they told me when people are running superchargers or whatever there overpowering the tranny. More or less we are losing power through the drivetrain...basically everyone knows this, due to the difference in HP from a 6MT and 5AT. The tech i spoke with told me that they do a simple valvebody upgrade and tune it only 1 way. I remember not to long ago someone had there tranny done at level 10 and he said he could churp 1st, 2nd, and 3rd sometimes. Level 10 told me they have only one basic valvebody upgrade (im guessing its vicious) to upgrade the valvebody you simply remove your existing valvebody and sent it out to them and you get it back in 2 days. The cost for the valvebody upgrade is $798.00. If people are also interested in a torque converter it cost $598.00. Shipment and upgrades take 2 days they said. He also told me about a core system they have. But it doesn't really make sense (you dont get your money back like some other core programs i know of)...they send you there core and you send them yours back. but the price is an extra 200$, were looking at $900.00 total for the core system. but this can be convenient espcially if you dont want your car out of commision for a few days. I just thought i would share that with the community since many people have been asking about the upgrades...i plan on getting this done hopefully this summer if the tranny lasts with the amount of power i am pushing on it...

Who do you recommend to do a valve body job then? I can't find anyone else to do it. Edge Racing does good tq converters for are cars, but for higher hp you will need a better valve body. I have used level 10 in the past and they worked out great. I seen that SGP sells a whole new tranny for are cars, what is all done to it. Is there a better valve body? Need that stiffer shifting for racing so there won't be any lag between manual shifts.

I have heard good and bad about Level 10, but that choices are limited. I plan on doing the valve body and torque converter. So, I can't see paying the core. Just send the TC to Level 10 and VB to Edge. Hopefully I can work it out so that both are removed, shipped, upgraded and returned within days.

Why don't you look into Maximum Tuning. It's a small shop run by a guy named Jeff who consistently does quality work. All the maxima guys swear by him, as do I. The only downside to his shop is that it is extremely busy. I got my VB from him for $350 installed during a special Group Buy and I love the damn thing. It would certainly be worth giving him a call to inquire about prices and availability.

Ditto! Next on my list. My thanks to 03BlKSETE and Kyle(Houston) for some other "choices".

SGP is getting a strong recommendation. It appears that if one is to do the VB and TC, unless they go to Level 10, the VB is going in one direction and the TC in another. Inorder to minimize downtime a lot of planning is required.

They sell upgraded tq converters at SGP also. So you can go with them for both. I will probably go with them to try out something different then Level 10. I just wanted to find a place that did both. I am glad that SGP does both now. Seems like all my stuff will come from SGP. Valve body, tq converter, and ultimate short block.

Sounds like I need to contact SGP on Monday! Perhaps they will see my "post" and send a "PM" my way. Need to find out some cost. Do they upgrade my TC or do they have TC on the shelf? Same question on VB. It would put some miles on the "Z", but might be worth the drive and save some down time, depending on their cost to remove and do upgrades.

Looked at his site. Looks like he currently only does VB, however I will call to see if he has any plans to do TC.
