Default Enlight me - Consult II vs OBD-II tools

I've tried understanding the difference between these two tools but the information is too scattered or hidden in endless threads so I though I would ask for some enligthment.

What I learned so far:

Consult II = Nissan factory tool

OBD-II scanners = universal aftermarket tools

So...

- what can the one do the other can not?
- which to purchase and where?

Thank you.

i'm pretty sure i read somewhere that OBDII cars have to be driven hard to get maximum performance from the engine.. it adapts to your driving style or something like that

With the Consult you can actually make changes to the ECU like raise idle, change timing.......

OBD-II is like an industry standard that all cars adhere to. You can get an OBD-II reader for less than $100 and read and reset check engine lights. More expensive models let you log various engine parameters as booger mentioned above.

Consult II is Nissan's own computer system that allows you to actually modify the ECU parameters, not just log them, as westpak mentioned above. You can't realistically buy a Consult II unit as they cost many, many thousands of dollars and are not really sold on the open market.

Oh, I see... so I have to become friends with a Nissan dealer I guess, huh?

Any recommendations for OBD-II scanners? I contacted a board member who is supposedly offering some own(?) development.

Default Bump

Anyone have success with a dealership adjusting timing or AFR after breathing mods were performed?

Has anyone tried?

I had my timing advanced, they can do up to 5 degress and I checked it afterwards and at idle it was around 17-18 so it held around 3 degrees, they advanced it +4. I was on the rich side 12.5-13 so I felt safe in doing it.

That was before turbos, now I am back to stock timing.
