Going turbo in a month and a half, probably going with the JWT clutch. I want to know how many people think it's NECESSARY to change out the flywheel as it's not really resurfaceable. I really don't care about the weight of the stock unit since I'll have over 400whp on tap. I've heard some people say that I could just rough up the surface of the flywheel. I really don't want to buy a flyhwheel immediatly if I don't HAVE to. Give me your input and votes!
I voted no, just because I've recently done it, and will be fi again soon myself. I had the engine replaced for oil burn issues, and they put the jwt clutch and flywheel in. It definitely revs quicker now, and other than that, since I'm breaking in the engine, I can't speak to performance. However, while I don't have the coffe can grind that people mention, overall there is a lot more NVH. I'm not sure that for a daily driver its the best idea. If its a weekend toy, go for it.
I know a flywheel makes the engine rev up quicker, but does it also make it idle quicker. What I'm trying to say is, when I rev my engine up, it has that normal slow reving back to idle. I was wondering if it revs back down to idle as fast as it revs up. Something like the race cars I see on the track at ALMS races.
It will rev up and down faster. The lighter the flywheel, the faster it revs. After I had the Tilton installed, Performance has to increase the idle so that when the engine revs down, the car will not stall. Changing to a lighter flywheel is a VERY good mod., Even more so with a turbo.
