NOS octane booster
It's sitting on my desk right as I'm typing this out now. I'm debating if I should put this in my fuel tank or not. It claims to raise octane levels up to 7 points.
Say if I do "experiment" with this additive, will this void my warranty?
What do you think guys?
Yay or nay?

It won't void your warranty.
Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act, look it up, it's against the law for the dealer to void your warranty before proving the modification caused the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply nis.
So what's your verdict, should I try a can of this stuff in my tank?

My friend just told me something like that. I'm reading the bottle and it says that it contains MMT/nitro methane.
Is it illegal to buy tolulene or xylene? I just found a gas station that has 100oct.

Not illegal -- it's paint thinner. 10% mix will net you about +1-2 octane
I wouldn't go above a 10-20% mixture tho, and you're always better off with race gas from a station since it's properly lubricated with additives and also usually oxygenated for additional performance gains.
Generally higher octane will only get you better performance if you're knocking/pinging with your current gas (not uncommon with crap 91 in Ca). Your ECU will stop pulling out timing and you'll feel some gains. Tho IMO not worth it for the premium price you'll be paying -- the novelty will wear off very quickly after a few tanks.

zx, thanks for the 411. I just found out that 100oct is nearly $6 a gallon. I don't think it would be worth my time and cash on a NA engine.
Thanks for your time.

Many with FI blend ~50/50 of 100/91 for an equivalent ~95.
However, as long as you still NA , it's not really necessary.
Its against the law to have the 7 point formula thats intended for street use. If it is the 7 point its for off road use only. Not that anyone checks or cares but it is the law that the EPA put out there. The most on road octane boosters are 1-2 points.
My dyno friends that test the race engines on a daily basis found no benefit from the NOS brand.
Not that some won't work but if you only knew what was in that bottle you'd flip.
1-2 ounces of mmt 6-8 of inert solvents.
Its a marketing gimmik to make the bottle worth 8bucks
Im pro additive all the way. But just do some homework before believing what it says on the label.
By the way whats your Elevation? Are you N/a or FI
If your above 3000 feet higher octane does not help it actually can have an opposite effect.
for every 1000 feet of elevation you lose 6-10% of your engines air effieciency.
Bottom line is that lower octane fuels burn slower and take less heat too ignite thus you may have detonation if more air is available.
Higher octane fuels burn slower and take more air to ignite. if your up high you can create deposits from inadequte burning.
Air+ compression = heat.
IF your a FI it doesn't matter you need the higher octane cause your forcing more air in the cylinder than a NA.
