I've heard that the UR flywheel pairs well with the stock clutch, it's pretty quiet, easily used in a daily driver, and still offers some nice performance gains, which seems like a good combo...BUT
I'm wondering if I should go ahead and replace the clutch while I'm in there anyway, since it's basically free labor. The NISMO is a little lighter, as is the JWT, but would either be as quiet as stock when paired with the UR flywheel? Would I be gaining much of anything over stock by going to either of those two, or would I need to go even smaller and lighter for it to make a difference?

It's just hard to sift through all the contradictory and mixed reports and try to make sense of things

i'm very interested in this thread cuz i, too, am looking for the best combo of performance and minimal extra noise. is anyone out there running an a/m flywheel with stock clutch, and if so, your impressions, please?
I've read some posts from people that have the JWT flywheel/clutch combo and they say that it only chatters in the beginning until its broken in. After that it doesn't make any noise anymore. Some others say that it only chatters until 2000 RPM. I even read a post where a guy said that his mechanic told him that once its broken in and you change all the fluids in your car, then you will barely be able to hear the chatter.
Anyways, I will have my car back sometime today with the TT and JWT Flywheel/Clutch combo done, and I can let you know what I think about it, and how bad the noise is.

Ill try to give an objective review here - I`m not with any company. Also, I`ll give the good and bad side to the issue at hand.
My scenario: New tranny and clutch disk around New Years. I`ve put about 500 miles on the car since then.
The good:
* Notable improvement in the speed of revs increasing/decreasing. Maybe 25-50% faster than stock? Nothing wild like the Tilton vids.
* The car feels like it has shed several hundred pounds in the accel. department.
* Noise is minimal to moderate IMO. Minimal chatter while outside the car at idle. Today I heard it a bit, but it sounded much like the Z when it was stock, just louder. Only gears 5 and 6 seem to chatter consistently while driving under 2200-2400 rpms.
The bad:
*The car is touchier to get moving . From a light it takes a bit of practice to move out without killing it, jerking, or revving to much. No big deal though - just takes some practice.
*The chatter is there sometimes, and a gravelly whoosh is there even more often at low revs in many gears. The whoosh doesn`t bother me much at all though, and the chatter from inside the car is not very loud or long lived if you get the revs up to 2400 rpm.
Overall
I like the mod! I think the UR is a quality piece and a good fit for someone looking for a noticeable perf. improvement without big sacrifices. I`d take it over an exhaust or plenum anyday.

Yea the Nismo has gotten mostly good reviews, but people expecting a huge difference might be disappointed. I am still considering it though, and it's always nice to have a Nissan part in there if possible =)
For reference:
Stock: 28lbs
Nismo: 20lbs
RPS: 18lbs
JWT/JUN: 14lbs
UR: 12lbs
Hmmm, maybe the RPS would provide the best all-around qualities, it seems like they hit the right spot at 18lbs...

thing of it is, it looks like "huge difference" also=huge downside (noise, hard to handle in traffic). in that case, i would fall into the small performance and small downside group cuz i need my car to be very friendly in traffic, and i hate bad-sounding noises.
I think speedracer summed it up best in this 5/04 post:
"a lot of the more common Nismo parts are made to enhance perormance a little, but also be street friendly. In the case of flywheels, what is best for a track car, is far from what is best for street car. While a 14lb flywheel will cause dramatically better revving up, it will also rev down just as quickly, making things very jerky between shifts. Now...on the track if you keep spinning above 4000rpm, this may not be an issue, but as a daily driver it will be. The overall feel with the Nismo may be subtle, but that is also a good thing in terms of smoothness on the road. So, it really depends on your primary goal for the car."
I haven't seen a review on the nismo combo since the 5/04 thread i got the above quote from. Can someone who is running the nismo flywheel/clutch combo please post your impressions?

The overall feel with the Nismo may be subtle, but that is also a good thing in terms of smoothness on the road.
The only problem with going too subtle is that the mod then becomes cost prohibitive to install, unless you are already pulling the tranny anyway. With just a flywheel you'd probably end up spending more on the labor than the parts. It would be hard for me to cough up $1k for a marginal difference.
While the Nismo seems quite a bit lighter (8lbs diff) than stock, it's not really that much because the weight that matters most is the mass on the outside portion of the flywheel.
Maybe I can pay the tech a little extra to teach me while he is doing the install, so that way I won't feel so bad about the labor costs

my clutch is starting to give out, i think. i've had 3 incidents recently where the clutch just went right down to the floor without any resistance whatsoever (is this a sign of a bad clutch?) while i was shifting at various speeds.
so according to what i have read, since they have to pull the tranny to get at the clutch, i might as well change the flywheel while they are in there. Am i misinformed?
