Default Another FD Swap Question

As stated in a previous post, I am looking to replace my 5AT FD with a 6MT FD. I also drive a Z. I know a lot of parts are interchangeable between the Z and G. Now on to my "?". Will the 6MT FD from a G35 fit in a 5AT Z? So basically, is the FD out of a 6MT G35 interchangeable with the FD from a 6MT Z, are they the same part?

TIA,
Zach

I think they are. If you're willing to wait I'm seriously thinking about swapping with an automatic. I've read a lower final drive ratio does wonder for boosted cars. I'm in Atlanta and I know we both are near Z1 so it would be a clean swap.

btw I heard about your day at the track saturday, I was there on sunday. You're 60 ft is way better than the best I could do yesterday.

What kinda times were you pulling? Were you there with the Z1 guys? If you are seriously going to swap out with a 5AT, I will wait and jump all over this. We live close enough where we could meet at a shop and do the swap right there. Let me know if and when you plan to do this and I will venture to ATL. Its only about an hour and a half from me Gotta love I-20!!

I have been planning on going with the Vortech in the next year or so and since I rode in Lee's HKS SC Z Sat, I think it will be sooner than later. What kinda F/I are you running?

Yeah I was there with Z1, my best was 13.9 yesterday

R/T ... .665
60' ... 2.187
330 ... 5.979
1/8 ... 9.075
MPH ... 80.58
1/4 ...13.984
MPH ... 102.40

Street tires but I had 285/35's on the rear. I was running 14.2 all day long and I hit 13.9 on the very last run at the track that day.

I'm very serious about the final drive swap, I just have to double check that it would be beneficial and that it will work with a 6mt. I'm going to get the APS twin turbo kit when it becomes available for the G35 so I'm anxiously waiting.

Have you gotten any install prices yet from Z1?

Install for the final drive? I havent received a quote yet. You may want to pursue the guy that is parting out cause I wont be ready to do anything till May or June.

What all is needed for a swap from a 6mt to a 5at gear set?

I'm confused as to what changes...do you just swap all of the gears out? Or just the ring and pinion? Will an aftermarket differential work once you've swapped?

I am not sure what all is needed to go from the 6MT to the 5AT. I know for the 5AT to the 6MT, I believe the cheapest way is to just buy the entire 6MT pumpkin including the gears. I think extensive modification is required to make the 6MT gearing work in the 5AT pumpkin. I would think something similar is required to go in the opposite direction but I am not sure.
