Default Engine oil (Mobil)

Does or has anyone ever used Mobil 1 tri synthetic. 15w-50 for high performance engines. I am going to be adding a Vortech, and am wondering if it would be better to use then the normal grade Moble 1.

Available in a 15W-50 grade, Mobil 1® Extended Performance 15W-50's high viscosity provides outstanding performance in high-revving, high-temperature conditions.

The back of the bottle says

*Specifically formulated for high performance engines
*Meets performance of API SL, SH, CF, ACEA A3/B3/B4 and MB 229.1
*Meets Japanese valve train wear requirements
*Provides protection for gasoline, diesel and turbocharged car engines.
*Tri-Synthetic formula helps to extend engine life.
*Excellent cleanliness and wear protection at high operating temperatures (>205 deg. C)
*Pours at -45 deg. C.
*Helps reduce oil consumption
*Compatible with conventional oils.

What do you guys think? It is also the same price as all the other oils.

I would recommend you stick with a thinner weight. I would run 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer

I put the Z away for the winter. But I do drive it lots in the summer. Even if Im going to be running a Vortech SC it wouldn't be a good idea to switch to a little higher grade then 10w-30, maybe a 10w-40? What kind of application would you use a 15w-40 in?

if you want to run higher viscosity in your Z, most 40wt oil would be fine. FYI: JDM Nismo Oil for Z33 is a 5W-40 oil. Using Mobil 1 15W-50 would probably be too thick in a Z.

15W-40 oils are mostly HDEO (heavy duty engine oils) for use in trucks.

Most modern cars use 5w30 because of how percise the modern machining processes are. Modern engines run very tight tolerances on the main and rod bearings. They recommend the thin oil so it can properly lubricate through those small clearances. If you run a much heavier oil, you run the risk of oil being too thick to properly lubricate when the engine is cold.

Default Mobil 1 15W-50

Im using Mobil 1 15W-50 on my Z. I agree its thick oil and should not be used on a Z. But this all depends on the climate of the area you live in. I am in the desert and in the summer we get 45-50 degrees Celsius. and in winter almost never under 15 degrees Celsius. So this oil vescosity is perfect for both winter and summer!
