Question Will cams void your motor warranty?

i know the answer to that question is yes, if your whole motor blows and they find wolf cams in there that they wont replace it, but my real question is, once the cams are in, how are they going to know they are there? if any problems arise with the motor, short of a total blow out will the dealer even notice? if the vehicle has idle issues, stalls, what have you will they perform their usual warranty work? i have thought alot about this mod, but dont want to void my motor warranty 12k into my 30k + warranty. input please.

They're not gonna know! Your idle will be raised only about two hundred rpm, which they will not pick up on if you are using mild cams. An aggressive camshaft configuration with duration of 270+ and a lopey idle might throw a red flag, owever. But nismo, jwt, and even the tomei cams are all fairly mild and idle fine.

a dealership near my house was onto me when the mechanic drove the car with my mods - mainly the tilton. I have JWT cams, but yeah, they'd never know - a lot of times dealers aren't that bright

Yes cams can void a warranty. And yes, most techs wouldn't even have a clue, so unless something really major occurs, you're pretty much good to go.

Thats it. If you break something in the motor thats not normal they will tear down your engine and see what caused the problem. Once they see the camshafts your pretty much sunk. They will make you pay to put the motor back together.

Exactly right. they would have to have a reason to tear into the head to even find them. Most cams on the market are not aggressive enough on our cars to really impact anything, as long as they are installed correctly. I wouldn't worry about it.

If I was doing cams I would drive to CA just to have performance do the install. Just for my peace of mind. Unless by chance there is a local Nissan/Infinity dealer that has installed plenty of cams.

The cost (parts+labor) and what you get performance wise, IMO isnt worth it.

I will say that I'm having oil consumption problems right now and the first thing the service rep asked was if I had aftermarket cams. I haven't done cams but he explained that if I did the problem would have to be fixed at my expense. This is an isolated incident though and not very common.

that's what I did. I had more confidence in Performance Nissan for that sort of thing - also with installing the the tilton than any local shop here in AZ. People are slowly getting more experience with the Z. The local dealers here in AZ are a joke as far as real knowledge about the Z.

was a fun trip. Took my GF and we went to disneyland, six flags, the beach etc while my car was getting a performance make over

well you can't adjust the ECU to raise the idle. So you'll stall uncontrollably when you normally shouldn't stall.

It might only be for 2004.5's though. Maybe early 2004's can have the idle adjusted, but I'm not sure on that.

there is hope though in that you can get the AAM or TS ECU flash and have them permanently raise your idle. I think that's the best solution anyway because what if you had to disconnect your battery, or your battery went dead? It would reset your raised idle and you'd be stalling

Again, that is true also, some 04s can get away with it, while others cannot due to the ECU. You'll need to adjust the base idle and if you can't you'll have some issues.
