That was my understanding, but I also know that many times Nismo Japan parts differ from Nismo USA parts...

Maybe Tony can confirm...

Anybody have a dyno of the Tomei 256 or 264 or 268 cams?
http://www.z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?m...ine&prodid=521

Also, I heard HKS has a 27X cam out for the VQs that works in both the VQ30s and VQ35s...anybody found this to be true/false?

JWT had nothing to do with NISMO cams. Some products sold by NISMO USA are exclusive to the USA (ie the cold air intake, the headers). The rest are the JDM pieces made by NISMO Japan. Basically, if it fits on the US car, they bring it here....if it does not fit, they do not sell it in the US and instead sub out to a US company to manufacture (intake is made by AEM)

Cams can make the car lopey indeed - all depends on what cam combo you select.

I'll have dynos posted next month (NA) of the Tomei 268's I hope....and there will be several dynos with the 268s on some pretty hard core FI cars in the near future too.

HKS cams are still in the development stage.

I am also interested in the Tomei Cams. The JWT and Nismo seems like great reliable, daily driver friendly, pieces but I want more power. I want like 30-40 RWHP from Cams so Tomei sounds the best. I do still want to retain the daily driveability but want more power than JWT/Nismo. Which grind would you guys recommend? Also, Z1 can I order the cams with a set of springs, retainers, etc? What would I need to run these cams reliably?

you are not going to see 30-40 rwhp from cams alone..it will require substantial other mods, most importantly the plenum/header combo, and ECU.

stock retainers are fine...all you need are springs (I am waiting on NISMO's for mine)

If you guys haven't read this on Tomei's site, I would recommend it.

I was under the impression the higher the lift and duration of the cam the more air/fuel is pulled in which equals more power. So is it just not possible to get that out of this car? I dont see why a higher lift cam would not get more power.

Also, I am planning on using the 350EVO Intake Manifold Setup w/ TB and Headers. What else would you recommend for NA?

Typically bigger duration cams are better for higher rpm power and they suffer down low with a loss of torque.

I am running 276 degree IN cams and 256 degree EX cams (Spec 1 cams) from Nismo with the lifts of around 10.8mm and they are great! Those cams do not create any lumpy idle or anything though, and you definitely need to replace VTC units to see the results and also to keep the lower end torque... the gains? 30 to 40 rwHP without losing any torque down low!

cheers,

richie

What ECU adjustments were required to handle the VTC units upgrade?

things do not operate in a vacuum - you guys need to do some reading on "how stuff works" and some google searches to figure out how cams play into the whole engine equation. You are most definitely not going to get anywhere near 30 whp from tossing a set of cams into an NA motor. A higher lift cam will theoretically make more power....if thats what that head and your header want - all these things need to work as a unit.

the gains richie posted are with substantial other mods - good gains yes, but loads of other items are needed to make it all work well together

Z1 is correct...

You will need to use a completely stand along ECU to tune the VTC units... I am using MoTeC M600 with cam control module + drive by wire module... other than the motec, spec 1 cams, nismo valve springs, nismo con-rod bolts (don't make HP) and the VTC units... I only put in a set of headers from Fujitsubo... and the end result is like 35 rwHP...

Dyno graph here (although I posted many times already)...

Note: 1 KW = 1.36 HP

Before: 169rwKW
After: 195rwKW

Total gain... 26rwKW = 35rwHP

and hope this helps!

cheers,

richie

ps. Here are other performance mods that I have on my car...
1. JUN Flywheel
2. Crawford Cats
3. Nismo Cat Back
4. K&N factory replacement
5. UR Crank Pulley

Looks like your project is coming together great. The unfortunate reality of going with such a high lift cam would be the whole tuning aspect. I'm guessing the stand alone ECU cost and arm and a leg as well as time for tuning. And this is what makes the more plug and play JWT/Nismo cams so alluring. But, I still want something more radical than JWT :/ Guess I better start saving up those greenbacks.
