Yes and it produces just as much HP as the Kinetix and Crawford REPLACEMENT Plenums at aa hundred bux less. (with no strut bar change)

Some guys on the plenum spacer thread really want to get another GB going. If you chime in and get 50 + people AAM might even do it. Definitely the best bang for the buck mod out for the Z!

Yeah but thats 2005 corvette performance (which smoked the 911 in every comparo so far) Point is I Have seen time slips from stock zs running 13.4 1/4 miles with stock (track model tires). That is the best time you will see for a stock Z and similarly 4.1 0 to 60 is the best 0 to 60 time you will see for a new carrera s. More likely are 4.5 to 4.7 0 to 60 times.

Wow someone got 13.4 with a stock track...amazing. Must've had a factory freak. Never seen that in my life at the local drag. Best I've seen is 13.65 down here. On the other hand some dude in a brand spankin new 911 carerra s always shows up completely stock and consistently hits mid 12's around 113 mph. I realize not everyones will be the same, but fairly close. Thats pretty darn good and about a full second quicker than the fastest Z youve seen. I dont know if all of them are like that but still, theyve got to be fairly close, depending on the driver of course. I actually got a chance to meet this guy also and hes just your average mid 50's guy who recently just started coming to the track.(I'm assuming since he got the car)

Default quick qustion

I've had my z since aug 04' and I really do appreciate all of the information on this site, especially the steps that were outlined for getting ready to upgrade your vehicle. I know that I will not be adding any tt's or sc's to the car or anything else in that price range. Although I am very interested in geting just another little bit of HP. I was looking into upgrading or changing the ECU and its been very difficult to find out; what the cost is, what the best option is, and what the results will be, meaning how much HP will i gain on the dollar? I'am willing to spend (i know its not much) $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 range what could I do for that price and get the most hp.

thank you

Yea, the fastest stock Z I have seen on the boards over the last 2 years was a 13.67 or so I believe.

Upgrading the ECU is next to worthless on a stock Z.

#1 you cant simply put in a "chip" You have to have your current ECU reflashed.

#2 The ECU flash on a stock Z gives you 2-3 HP. The upgrade is better when you have mods. In this case the ecu is told how to make best use of the mods.

Intake, header, and exhaust and test-pips or high-flow cats should cost you around $2k. Reflash after that and your probably looking at at least a 20-30 whp gain.

Default thank you

this info is very helpful i'm quite new to upgrading thank you. couple more questions if you don't mind. I was thinking of a plenum and i don't fully understand the "final drive" in 6 or 5. is it just changing the gearing and will it help me on my main objective which is to shave off .5 secs on 1/4 mile?

thank you

In order to get the most out of the 3.9 in the 1/4 mile, you will also need stickier tires. The 3.9 w/ some drag radials should easily take .5-.7 seconds off.

I assume "track model tires" means DR's or something. stock track model 350z running 13.4 on stock 245/45r18 RE040's just seems... impossible.

Define stock, once I saw a guy run 12.4 in what he called a stock eclipse turbo... he meant that the engine and turbo were stock, but he had the turbo cranked up and the car severely stripped down, severely.

Default purchasing my first mods, ever on any car, little help please

I wanted to get started by purchasing a plenum, intake and maybe the pulleys, unless there is something else i should start with. Does anyone have any suggestions on what brands are reputable.

Thank you.
