Default UR Crank Pulley Installed

I had it installed at the local dealer (Elk Grove Nissan) yesterday.

I got a sweet deal on the installation ($75) because I had a previous service issue with the dealership last year when the installation of the S-tune suspension took considerably longer than planned. I contacted the service director and the owner after the incident last year and they wanted to make amends and retain my business. So when I called them a couple weeks ago to get a labor quote they offered the the great price which I could not refuse.

I don't have any before/after dynos to compare, but of course the redline does seem to come a bit quicker in 1st and 2nd gear. There is no squealing of belts or any driveability issues at this point so I am quite satisified.

I looked at the stock crank pulley that was left in the UR shipping box after I got home and man, that thing is huge and heavy. It weighed in at 6lbs on my scale, and I know the UR is about 2 pounds.

I'm not sure if you got THAT great of a deal, I mean it's just a pulley install, any decent wrench with experience should be able to knock it out in under an hour.

LOL. I have a feeling we'll regain "mod convergence" towards the end of the summer if not sooner.

Well, I think it was a great deal regardless. Other than the DIYers, I haven't seen anyone else get it done for less.

$70 bucks.
(Sorry)

heh.

P.S. I have reason to believe the UR crank pulley is actually under 2 lbs. Closer to 1.2-1.8

That is an awesome deal! My brother and I installed the UR crank pulley and belts on his G35 coupe. We are not very mechanically inclined and it took us 6 hours. The directions are ok, but they really should require you to remove the electric fans behind the radiator for easier access. After the install we both agreed that we should have had a mechanic do it. My brother would have probably paid $150 in labor had we known how hard it was going to be. Its been about 3 weeks since the install and the pulley is still on the car (hasn't fallen off yet) and no belt noise. Noticed that the car does rev quicker and quite happy with the product.

I am more surprised the dealer would install such a part. Maybe this is proof that the pulley replacement is not detremental to the VQ engine as many say it is.

I don't know of a single VQ engine death attributed to UR pulley.

some people have been driving them for close to 50kmiles now. (I'm sure maximas and altimas even more than that)

I've had mine for 10K miles and engine runs smooth as silk

I have a set waiting to install. I have been cautious because of so much bad press. I am starting to believe that the doom sayers don't understand the diff between the internally balanced VQ and the straight 6's like BMW etc that have had issues with the UR pullies.

I have had the UR 3pc Pulley set on for close to 35k miles with no problems, issues, or wierd noises. I had it installed by a local shop down here for I think it was around $70. Do these pulleys need to be re-tightened after a certain amount of mileage or should it be fine?

i dont think you guys understand the problem with harmonic balancers. If there will be a problem it probably wont be at 35,000 or 50,000 or 70,000 but one day you might realize you have been ruining the engine. Lets not start a flame war over this. Lets just agree that a harmonic balancer is there for a reason, the aftermarket pulleys dont have them. Thats all there is to say

The only question i have is why the hell dont the aftermarket companies just utilize dampeners like stock?

Sure... But I think you don't have a clue and are just refering some unrelated stuff you read on some website and are now trying to make your non-knowledge into a science.

Who told you the stock pulley rubber ring is an harmonic ballancer? Have you ever seen an harmonic ballancer? Do you know what harmonics are? How engine generate them? Why engine generate them? ...

I'll just tell you this. Your JWT intake is certainly more nocuous in the long run than these pulley will ever be on a VQ engine.
