Thumbs up KPTechnologies Shift Light

the kptech shift light is here.

i have had for a while now and am just gettin to writing about it. the shift light is great.

it is user programable, so it can be set to whatever value you want. to set it you rev the car to half of the value that you want it to come on at. so if you want it to come on at 6k you rev to 3k. programing this way allows you not to have to rev the car so high which could be dangerous. i recommend you set it while you are driving because it is much easier to hold the rpm while driving instead of being parked and reving it.

3 of the 4 wires connect to the same wires as the vdc making installation very easy. the 4th wire can be connected to the crank shaft position sensor, which is where i connected mine. there are other one that will work that kevin and elaborate one cause i dont know which ones they are.

the led is very small 3mm, but is incredibly bright. during the day with my windows down i can still see it even if im not looking at it. at night it lights up the entire car. i have not mounted mine yet so i dont know where im goin to put it yet. i will probably mount it in the a piller just got to figure out how to drill it and not mess up the felt on the outside. the led is small enough though that you can mount it anywhere and it wont be very visable.

i do not have any pics right now of it but i will try to get some. i know that kevin has some so maybe he can post them. overall this is another great product from kptech. install is very simple and takes bout 30 mins. they will soon be released to all of you guys, so the wait is almost over. please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and i will try to answer them the best i can.

I'm STILL waiting for the automatic door lock/unlock. That's a whole lot more useful to us than a shift light.
Wait, don't we already have a shift light built in??????

Ahh.... I didn't realize that you G-guys didn't have a shift light. Weird how Nissan/Infinity didn't share something so simple.

A friend of mine (ZCruzn) and I actually know the inventor of this module, Kevin Pierson. He's a freaking genius. He showed us pictures of the shift light and I agree it is very bright. The reason he made it is because the one that comes on the 350Z isn't very bright. It's hardly noticeable and I can attest I've even hit the rev limiter because I didn't see it flash on several occasions. I think it's a good module. I believe he uses a It's a white superbright LED for the shift light.

Since you don't have any pics yet, could you please tell us where you mounted it? How big is the housing?

Well, Kevin told me it's inside the A-pillar. You just drill a small hole (like 1-3 mm) and put the module behind it. However, he told me you can put the light anywhere you wanted. Then again, these were based off his pics. sflg35 may have it mounted somewhere else.

i think i would be intersted in something like this cuz the stock shift light is not in the ideal location, imo....sometimes it is difficult to see, especially during spirited driving when all your focus in on the road

the led comes in several colors. the ones me and kevin have are blue leds. other colors are red, amber, and i think white.

i have not mounted mine yet cause i have been pretty busy. but i have it run up the a pillar right at eye level and pointing towards me. there is no housing just an led so you can mount it wherever you want.

Well, Kevin told me it's inside the A-pillar. You just drill a small hole (like 1-3 mm) and put the module behind it.
kevin has mounted in his a pillar. you will have to drill a 3mm hole because that is how big the led is.

they will be released very soon. i will keep you guys updated on when that will be and how much. if you guys have more questions let me know and i will answer them the best i can.

thanks
daniel

What wire is used for the rpm signal ? This would be helpful for those of us that want to wire in an aftermarket shift light....

The KPtechnologies shift light was designed so that ANY wire that pulses X amount of times per revolution will work with no switches to set. This means you can use your crank shaft position signal wire (1 wire at the ECU), cam shaft phase signal (2 wires at ECU), ANY fuel injector output pulse (6 at ECU), or ANY Spark plug output pulse (6 at ECU).

Like I said, the module has NO switches to set, and is infinately ajustable to almost ANY RPM (min = 2x idle RPM, max >25,000 RPM)

The LED is 3mm, and requres a 7/64" hole (smaller then 1/8"). The LEDs are water clear meaning they are clear when they arn't lit, making them hard to see when not on.

please do not let that first pic confuse you. the pic does not show the led to be very bright, but the led is quite blinding at night. it lights up my whole car. i am goin to work on pic and video tomorrow.

yeah, please note that the picture was taken in daylight. At night it lights up the entire vehicle. You can see the LED in the day, if its aimed properly. Even if its aimed wrong you can see it if you glance at it.

Could you post a pic of it uninstalled when you get a chance? Also, how do you adjust the activation point? Would it be possible to mount the kit in such a way to let it be adjustable via a **** on the dash?

You hold the VDC/TCS button down for 5 seconds and the light will dimly light (its a two stage light). Let go of the button and the light will dimly flash. You rev the engine to 1/2 of the RPM you want the light to come on at. Once you get the RPMs to 1/2 of where you want the setpoint to be you push the VDC/TCS button again. The module will automatically calculate you setpoint (ie if you want a 6,000RPM setpoint you push the button at 3,000RPM).

Because of the unique design of the KPtechnologies shift light there is no way to use a **** to adjust it. We wanted to make it as easy to use as possible. If we were to include a adjustment **** we would have had to include a 'pulse per revolution' selector switch. With the integration though the VDC/TCS switch you can adjust the setpoint at any time, with extreme precision.

Also, since the shift light operates at 8mghz and reads its signal directly from the crank angle sensor it is extremely quick. When you are WOT the light will come on BEFORE your tach actually reaches the setpoint, as the stock analog guage lags behind the signal. This can cause most racers to pass redline because the stock guage doesn't move quick enough to be accurate. With the shift light, you will know exactly when to shift.

Thanks for the info! The reason why I asked about pics of it uninstalled is that I would like to mount it next to a gauge in the A-Pillar gauge pod and I am curious if it will fit.

Also, what is the price going to be?
