guys that use 0w30 amsoil, is this just for turbo cars or would this be the right weight for a stock Z? Also what filters do you use?

i use mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w30. it started out looking pretty clean on the dipstick but even despite regular oil changes now the dipstick oil looks filthy. also i have to add oil in between oil changes. like 1 quart every 1000 miles.

I've been using AMSOil for the last 4 oil cycles and I always need to add about 1/2 a quart after around 2200 miles...I guess you just burn faster through synthetic...

Default My $.02

I have been using Mobile 1 for years in all kinds of engines and have never experienced an increase in oil consumption. I will be watching the Z closely for this. I have had trouble with Fram oil filters, after removing/disecting them I found that the internal bypass rupture disc was open. I then removed a brand new one (started engine to check for leaks) and found that it had an open disc already. I no longer use any Fram filters.
A good source of info is an oil analysis, it is only $20 at the local NAPA store. The sample is sent to a lab, you get the results back in about two weeks.
Here is a link to some good oil/filter info, at the bottom of it's page you can go to the home site where you will find all kinds of great info.

I've got a good friend running a 0W/30 True Synthetic Oil from Castro. It supposedly is pretty hard to find and is only sold at Autozone stores. From what I am told Castro contracts out their motor oil production to several different manufactures and one particular manufacturer located in Germany produces a product unlike all others. Apparently this 0W/30 sull synthetic oil is suppose to the nector the car gods. If you go to Bobistheoilguy.com most oil gurus agree that this the best cleanest running oil you can buy. The trick that I hear is that you have to find the Castrol 0W/30 oil that is manufactured in Germany. 0W/30 oil manufactured any where else is not even comparable. The downside is that it runs about $6/qt. In any case the website I mentioned above is a great place to get all of your oil questions answered.
