Default ECU reflash with cam upgrade

If i change the cams in my 03 350z will i need to do a chip upgrade? Im used to BMW's sorry for a simple question

Would the car run with the upgrade cam and NO software upgrade?
How much better will the gains be if i did both?

Can we also list some cam suppliers in this thread?

Thanks,
W C R

i would think that if your cams changed your a/f, you would need a reflash of the ecu.
cam makers: nismo, jwt, tomei, in order of more aggressive, to name the major ones.

The A/f ratio arguement is a very good point. Is this the only reason that a software upgrade would be needed?

But changing the cam wouldnt change the timing if the cam is a simple regrid. I can see that replacing the cam with a new billet one would definately chnage the timing ebcause of the center line being different.

Interesting...

from experience, it's really nice to have a reflash permanently raise your idle instead of just thru the consolt II unit at the dealership. Because say you ever had your battery die on you or had to disconnect your battery, your ECU would forget about the raise idle and put it back to 600rpm and then you'll stall constantly

Having it permanently programed into the ECU fixes that issue - as well as A/F and timing, though at this point I'd rather use the emanage ultimate to do timing and fuel than mailing the ECU back and forth.

Unless you live down the street from AAM that is. I personally went to technosquare and they don't have a dyno there. They just did some street driving to supposivly balance the A/F but when I went to dyno, it was dangerously lean - detonation etc. 4 sends and returns later, it's still really lean. So, learned my lesson, taking matters into my own hands to balance A/F

Wouldn't the learning capability of the ECU negate anything a piggyback system over time? Like the Emanage or the S-AFC since it seems it decieve the ECU as to more or less airflow.

yes and no. a piggyback consistantly send its own signals to the ecu causing the chnages to be "permenant" but sometimes CEL are thrown because of hise constant chnage. also because of this not so permenante change the gains are not as big as a reflash would be.

a reflash and an emanage work great. (personal experiance)
