Aftermarket Clutch/Flywheel-need help on probs
I have a distinct feeling that my trans is going to be coming out of the car at just 3576 miles It has a bad sound when the car is in N and the clutch is let out. According to the dealer, the sound couldn't be heard, then it was normal, then the tech heard it and it wasn't normal, then I was told that another car came in and had the same sound r-i-g-h-t... Now the service manager is looking at it tomm.
I can tell you I know that it is not right. The car also clunks every once in a while when the clutch is pressed in and I go to put it in 1st. It sometimes grinds on me during normal driving but only in 3rd.
Either a throwout bearing is bad to cause the main problem of the sound in N, or trans is gaffed-either way the trans is likely to come out. If it does, I need to find a lightweight flywheel and clutch if one is made for our cars yet. Any suggestions?
I need to tell them about a whole bunch of other stuff too like the car has a few squeaks and rattles. Oddly, the idle exhaust note is different than my brother and father in laws 350's. Not sure what that is all about...the Bose stereo changes volume on its own and is super bassy, sub is totally uncontrolable. The car also seems like it is clunky when taking off slow in first (almost no revs-like the point right before it would start bucking) but my brother's sounds like this too...haven't asked father in law yet. I just heard the brakes squeak when going through a drive through too
God, that extended warranty is looking pretty damn good right about now...
Any insight would be helpful.

A lighter-than-stock flywheel allows the engine to rev quicker (less mass in the flywheel to rotate), along with the obvious weight advantage.

JWT is prototyping the Findazia (sp) flywheels for the 350Z. Aluminum w/ a steel insert for the friction surface. Call and ask JWT about this, should be available to public w/in a month or so. This info was straight from Findazia(sp) @ the PRI show.
