Talking Top Speed On Turbo 350's

We all keep hearing that the top speed of a 350 z is between 155 and 160, anyone take a turbo z past that? Im gunna guess that with 400 whp and the right gearing you have to pushing 200mph! Anyone have a video of a turbo z passing 160? 170? 180?

This was taken a long time ago... It doesn't take a turbo in your car to go that fast. I'm n/a and have a little bit of more whp now than when I took the picture... I have gone somewhere over 165mph after the re-flash and the Z could have gone even faster, but it's a little more difficult to take a picture past 158mph...

I hope you have lots of room to slow down, otherwise your brakes will not like you very much.

so, my point is that if your car has lets say 265 whp, and a single turbo is pushin 400whp, he should be able to get into the high 180's mph! I wanna know whos got a turbo z that has gone faster then 160 165!

wtf does hp have anything to do with top speed if the car runs out of gearing?

first thing you'll need to do is remove the stock speed limiter with a higher redline

then look into getting the auto's 3.36 final drive to replace the 3.5. Then you should be able to reach 180+mph as long as you have the hp to overcome the wind.

You'll need more downforce for safety

Yep the top speed is factory limited at 156 MPH. I read somewhere a while back that a 6MT can go like 184'ish in 6th gear (on a dyno) and closer to 195 at 7100 RPM's. I think 207 was the calculated max with a final drive swap to the 3.2

Don't quote me, this is just by memory... but somewhere in the ballpark. By the way 156 is very easy totally stock, I could see atleast 170 on a stock 350Z without the top speed limit.

Wasn't the Option Mag Z doing over 190 when that tire blew in the Silverstate Classic? It was stroked to 3.8L and had one massive snail on top. Don't know if this counts as it was prepped specificaly for the event, but shows that a Z can be made to run VERY fast on an open road.

I actually did 159mph with the stock ECU (the picture says 158). I think the rear wind help me go that fast...

ok, missed that, just jumped on the title of the thread.

Why are people in america always so concerned about top speed?

"How fast does it go?"

I'm always thinking "wtf? who cares what the top speed is"

You don't reach your top speed on the 1/4 mile or most road courses.

High speed ovals or the streets are about the only places to mess with 160+mph.

just takes one ridge in the road or some spilled coolant or oil, or dirt, or a pothole, or road debri, shred of tire, tree branch, rock, whatever to knock you off the road and kill yourself on a public road at 160+mph

+1.

You would run out of gearing around 187ish mph on this car, and doing that on the street is just stupid. Most folks with FI wouldn't push the car that hard anyway for fear of blowing/spinning/cracking something.

Unless you're planning on racing at Daytona I don't see why you'd be concerned about top speed anyway.

I agree, top speed is stupid (especially on public roads).

Acceleration for me.

It's a bragging number plain and simple. So people can brag that their car can go 180+mph or whatever. Or brag how awesome/(stupid?) they are cause they have such huge ***** to go 180mph in their awesome car out at that whatever long deserted street out in the middle of nowhere (to avoid the cops cause they're so smart, but at the same time lose any chance of rescue if they crash)

Not saying it isn't a thrill or anything. After you do it once or twice you go "ok, been there done that, who cares"

not to mention it's easier to blow an engine trying to reach 160 than most other things out there because the higher gears take longer to reach redline because of the build in air resistence. This means you spend more time in the 6000rpm-redline area for longer lengths of time.

The stock fuel system has a fuel consistency issue when doing things like that. Running that hard with fuel not being consistent is flat out asking for trouble. Especially on a FI car. Unless you have a return fuel system. Some NA people have blown their engines trying to maintain 160mph for some whatever length of time. This becomes much more likely if you have some decent NA mods where you are maxing out the fuel system a little bit more - especially at those stress levels for that length of time.

geez, all the original poster asked is what is the top speed with FI kit. Just like some of you think top speed is stupid, some people might think 1/4 mile and autocross is stupid. different strokes for different folks. For all everyone knows he drives on the autobahn everyday.

they have an autoban in westchester ny?

his question has been answered for the most part

if he regears, probably 18X mph

really not so sure many people drive much past 160mph with FI cars after spending all that money. Option magazine has proof they didn't have such great luck and they did everything as professional as possible with an ambulance standing by etc

ah ok, those location tags must not be accurate then. I'll start assuming everyone has an autoban in their backyard.

Sorry, my mistake

You know what they say about assuming.

Regardless, why call someone stupid because they want take the car to top end. If that is what they are into then fine, as long as they don't do it on public roads. Again, some people might think 1/4 mile racing and autocross are stupid.
