Question How to get 350hp (N/A) out of the VQ35DE?!

Yes, you read it right. I'm talking about getting almost 100hp per lettre on this engine
Being frank, I think it's a very difficult task but is achievable Having heads and cams is a must, but what is the cheepest way to get there?? Some people talk about using PORTED Maxima 3.0 heads and some high cams with a good ECU reflash Others just simply recomend buying a full combo from Japan that will cost you around $15K and the kit promises you a max of 349ps
For sure, a stroker kit will get you there, but let's leave that a side

It's a never-ending thread and all your experiences and suggestions are welcomed

I would say... just buy a full amuse built engine with nismo spec 2 parts... that will give you 349HP at the engine... and the price will be somewhere around 15K as you mentioned... so you don't need to have any problem running the engine later on. The ECU is the most important part of this tuning I would say and a simple reflash (without the car being there to be tuned real time) will not do the job AT ALL!

The kit is expensive due to the spec 2 heads from nismo, but I reckon you can just simply go for a nice set of higher compression ratio pistons and that might save you some money from buying the heads (since those heads are used to raise the CR anyway)...

cheers,

richie

Thanks for that man, but have you heard about using the Maxima heads with some porting to get that increase in higher compression?

There are people here who already have that at the crank. Before MoTeC, Doug@crawford has an estimated 340-342 at the crank. MoTeC tuning is going on right now. I am sitting roughly around 325 at the crank.

Before someone pipes up about the HP numbers they are just estimations, no we have not engine dynoed. They are good estimations, though.

Z350Lover, if I am not mistaken is already there as well (as far as crank power goes).

Guys my build is going on all this week. I'll have some data for you soon after it is completed. The tuning & testing will be performed on a Dastek magnetic resistance load based dyno by a well experienced Unichip factory trained and certified technician.

cheers

if you dyno over 290 at the wheels... you can claim 350 crank w/o me calling you on it.

Well this dyno is far more efficient/accurate than say a Dynajet. I had my Z on a dynajet for comprisons when i did the Borla cat back. It did about 239.## back then. On the Dastek i suspect it would have been a lower result, who knows. They should be doing some pre Dastek runs before the work is started this week. They had better. We'll see what gains are accomplished but they should be formidable with these new cams and Unichip, but we are not sure. This will be the 1st 350Z with these particular N/A cams.

VandyZ:

I think my car should be somewhere around that figure... with custom built y-pipe installed last week.... in total.... the car pulls out 47 rwKW = 64 rwHP more from the stock wheel power (from 155rwKW to 202rwKW on the same dyno)... and if we just assmue that rwHP = crank HP, the car has got 280 + 64 = 344 crank hp...

And I am not too sure if you can work out the exact crank HP from those numbers as standard car has 206KW at the engine and pulled out 155KW at the wheels... and to calculate what crank power is with 202KW at the rear wheels... It might or might not be accurate because the dynos were done a few months apart from each other, but should give some good indications of the power gained at the crank...

cheers,

richie

not without head work and cams...and by the time you pay for the install of those parts, you'll be very close to that $15k mark I bet

+1... or even well over 15K... motec M600 alone with tuning will be around 6K USD already... and with higher compression pistons, I am sure you will need a set of stronger rods to go with that too... and then engine out labour + rebuild labour and cams and heads as Z1 mentioned... it will shot pretty high though.. and once again... if you want to do the engine internals already, do everything all together while things are apart... I have already regreted that I didn't drop in a nice set of rods and a set of the HC pistons in while the engine was apart...

cheers,

richie

Isn't the motec m600 a replacement computer to the stock ecu? In that case then a whole program would have to be provided from scratch? Isn't that something that would be just for race cars, I mean not very good for streetability? Enlighten me!!

Can be tuned to be streetable. You have complete control over the ECU. No more ECU getting in the way of making power.
